Clicking on email notification pop-up won't open the email message

When I receive pop-up email notifications through Outlook, I used to be able to just click on the pop-up and it would open the email message. When I click on the notification now, nothing happens except that the notification goes away. In addition, subsequent emails that come in populate a notification but the notification is the same one that I previously received (for example, if the first email I received upon opening Outlook was from Sender A, I will get a notification from Sender A and clicking on that does not open the email. When I get an email from Sender B, I get another notification but it is the same notification as I received from Sender A; again, clicking on it does nothing except to dismiss the notification). If I instead click "dismiss" on the notification, then the new sender's information on the subsequent notification will be accurate.

Can this be fixed? How can I again get the email message to appear when I click on the email notification?

That's the Win 10 notifications you are looking at, and as such you need to check Win notification settings. (Not that they have ever worked for me)

The Outlook shortcut, in the task bar will show an envelope, if any mail is received

The envelope shows and if I click on that it will bring my entire mailbox to the front of the screen. That part appears to be working. It's the pop-up notifications that used to open the individual message just received that are no longer working. I tried to look around in my Windows 10 settings but can't find anything relevant.

    Hi Alison Looby,

    Thanks for posting here!

Because you can receive the pop-up notifications, the Outlook desktop alert was turned on, the problem is that you cannot click to open the message. This is more likely due to a problem with the Outlook application, I suggest you create a new profile (Do not delete the previous profile), new profile will configure your account, data files and all kind of settings again, here is the reference: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Create-an-Outlook-profile-F544C1BA-3352-4B3B-BE0B-8D42A540459D

And try to start Outlook in safe mode to check the issue:  typing outlook /safe in the Run dialog on Windows. > In the Choose Profiles dialog box, accept the default setting of Outlook and choose OK. > If prompted, enter your password and choose Accept

In addition, it is recommended to update the Office to the latest version to see the results, if scenario persists, we can try to repair Office from Control Panel (Please back up the data in case), here is the reference:https://support.office.com/en-US/Article/Repair-an-Office-application-7821d4b6-7c1d-4205-aa0e-a6b40c5bb88b (select Quick Repair)

If problem still persists, please share the Outlook version to us:File > Office Account > entire screenshot of Product Information. (remove the PII please)

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation, welcome back to us if there are any updates.

    Thanks,

    Linda

This is typical Microsoft right here.  You took something that worked just fine and replaced it with something that does less than it did before.  And your solution for create a new profile is so frustrating, and I'm not even sure if that'll work.  Do MS developers test anything before they just throw it out to the world?  Allison is right--when people click the email notification they want to OPEN that email.
