In the latest update of Outlook for Mac I can no longer see a count of the number of emails in my inbox.  Is there a way to get it back?

Other than Microsoft Nannyware switching OL over to the new version on its own every so often, and I have to revert and restart ... always at an inconvenient time.

Thanks for all of the work arounds (with the emphasis on "work"). The old method is still superior:

    1 - Find eyeballs

2 - Move them to view the bottom left of the OL window.

    3 - Focus eyeballs

    4 - Read Item count

You're under 5-digits, so all good!

No, it's a stupid Microsoft regression. Go back to the legacy UI and it works like it should. Frankly, there is nothing in the new UI that is compelling enough to switch.

The total count doesn't display until you select all messages. Maybe it is a Mac thing.
