In the latest update of Outlook for Mac I can no longer see a count of the number of emails in my inbox.  Is there a way to get it back?

    Bonjour Everyone,

I'm monitoring this thread for years. I've received an email from Internal IT dept telling us that Legacy Outlook for Mac wil be retiring in October 2025.

It is time Microsoft comes with a solution for such a basic and tiny request.

    Hi Anna,

in the previous outlook (outlook classic) it was possible to see the total number of items in a folder or the number of unread items. in the new outlook, it's only possible to see the number of unread items. It's doing my head in. can you please fix it!

    Thanks

    Andrew

You must have misunderstood me. I know you don't lose features in legacy, that's exactly why I want it. The "new" Outlook is almost completely devoid of usability.

It's nice that they have a free version, but why doesn't it include the legacy?

I don't think you lose any new features in legacy mode, it's just a UI change as far as I know. If there are, I am not missing them. Microsoft wasn't always like this. Under Gates, they actually listened to customers and the products reflected that feedback. I am using the purchased, not the subscriber version of Office 2021. For the first couple of years, after an update, Outlook would force the new UI when opened and you had to go to the help menu to revert back to legacy mode. Very annoying! Eventually they stopped that nonsense. One thing I know for sure, I will never upgrade to the new 2024 version just being released because I am guessing they ditched legacy mode.

I found the legacy check box. I don't see a sliding switch like that.

But if Outlook is great and new, why take away ESSENTIAL features like this? It makes no sense at all. Why be forced to go back to legacy to get the Outlook that's better and more useful??

But unfortunately I'm on the free version and of course they don't let you use legacy for free. Again, makes no sense at all. Seems they'd allow legacy for free but make you pay for the great and new outlook.

I'm shocked that Microsoft got as successful as they did by ignoring what is most useful to users.
