Hi Zeal,

Glad to help you here. Along with the “Categories” option, Microsoft Outlook for Android will also get a new floating action menu to help you quickly access a few essential features. You will be able to access the menu by tapping and holding the compose button. You will be able to access the menu by tapping and holding the compose button.

The upcoming “Categories” feature on Microsoft Outlook for Android will allow users to group emails, events, and contacts based on customizable categories. Once released, the feature will show up as a new “Categories” option in the app settings.

Tapping on this option will open a new page, which will include a couple of predefined categories and a button to add a custom category. When you tap on any of these predefined categories, you will see a pop-up that will let you change the category name and color. However, it isn’t clear how these categories will be displayed in the inbox. So you may update the Outlook at first to have a try whether it could work or not.

Hope that this answers your concern. If you have any questions about this issue or I misunderstand your meaning, please feel free to reply and I will answer for you. Thank you very much.

Regards,

Rebecca

Yes I have read them all, going back several years.

Don't assume when you don't know what you're talking about. I read others complaining just like you.

I chose to stay positive and simply state the facts; what I can do and what I would like to do.

Hopefully we'll get it someday. It would be great to have the feature now but it's not the end of the world without it.

    Have a great day

The answer is - you can't. You obviously have not read all the many years of threads in this question that all complain about the fact that in the mobile app you cannot apply categories to emails, only calendar items. Microsoft has obviously decided that this is not important.

When will the feature to "apply" a category to an email be available?

    I see all my categories.

I can apply categories to my calendar events.

I can't figure out how to to add/apply a category to my emails.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks

I used to use Gmail and I used the "Labels" function on every email which helped me stay organized. Applying multiple Labels to 1 email string was also very helpful. I recently had to switch to Outlook and I find the "Category" feature works in a similar way which is nice. But why can I not apply a Category to an email string via the mobile Outlook App? I need to stay organized, and I don't want to wait until I'm at my computer.

Outlook Team, please add this feature!! This forum post is nearly 2 years old!!
