Using Categories in Outlook mobile app

Does anyone know how to apply Categories to emails in the Outlook for Android app please?

Hi Zeal,

Glad to help you here. Along with the “Categories” option, Microsoft Outlook for Android will also get a new floating action menu to help you quickly access a few essential features. You will be able to access the menu by tapping and holding the compose button. You will be able to access the menu by tapping and holding the compose button.

The upcoming “Categories” feature on Microsoft Outlook for Android will allow users to group emails, events, and contacts based on customizable categories. Once released, the feature will show up as a new “Categories” option in the app settings.

Tapping on this option will open a new page, which will include a couple of predefined categories and a button to add a custom category. When you tap on any of these predefined categories, you will see a pop-up that will let you change the category name and color. However, it isn’t clear how these categories will be displayed in the inbox. So you may update the Outlook at first to have a try whether it could work or not.

    Hi Rebecca,

    I see the categories option live in mobile now (Android, iOS, for both phone and tablet alike). However, there is no method anywhere in the app to actually apply a category to a mail or calendar object, nor to filter by categories once applied. This is extremely useful in the web app to be able to group together like messages across different folders. Just being able to rename or add categories in the general preferences doesn't really have a daily use.

    Is there a plan to enable mobile management of categories in the actual mail and calendar events?

    When will this feature be available? Currently, all I can do is flag an email then go back and categorize it when I'm at my computer. Very inefficient use of time.

    It's March 14 and I don't see this feature coming to our mobile apps! So, the meaning of "soon" should be redefined for MS staff...
