Error code 80090016 Trusted Platform Module has malfunctioned.

When I try to add a new Office 365 email to my outlook I get the error below.   I think it's because of my "Work or school account" which I want to remove. I'm not sure how my email was signed up for this second account. I set up this computer for home use only, I won't be using any of the Microsoft Azure features.

My question is, what will happen when I remove my “work account” and leave my Microsoft account?  Everything is backed up on Onedrive, I just don’t know what to expect because when I went to remove it, it warned me about losing data and settings.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

A co-worker had this TPM error, which he believe began to occur after a Windows/Office update. He was unable to add an account with Multi Factor Authentication enabled to Outlook, but he was able to add an account that didn't require MFA. So we thought it might be related to Modern Authentication. We used the following KB article to force Outlook to use Modern Authentication, and he was able to add his account to Outlook.

I have a similar issue.  I had a forced update on Friday the 28th.  Now I cannot send email from either Outlook or any programs that typically work.  I have to add my password to receive emails multiple times a day.

I've been having this same issue with my work computer.  I've taken time with my IT manager, windows has been updated, office has been updated and still the same problem.  I feel like microsoft gaslights people with all of these supposedly simple fixes, but the truth is they just don't work - while wasting time and interfering with productivity. It's kinda the only game in town, but far from an excellent game.

Having the same problem with 2 clients with non-domain PCs (Dell Optiplex 5070)  They happen to be part of the same organization.  Office 365 was provided from GoDaddy.  They use Word, Excel, Outlook, OneDrive and Teams.

This has been ongoing for approximately 2 months.

Have tried multiple solutions from this thread as well as many other threads on the TPM error.  None provide a permanent fix.

Microsoft really needs to correct this soon.
