Error code 80090016 Trusted Platform Module has malfunctioned.

When I try to add a new Office 365 email to my outlook I get the error below.   I think it's because of my "Work or school account" which I want to remove. I'm not sure how my email was signed up for this second account. I set up this computer for home use only, I won't be using any of the Microsoft Azure features.

My question is, what will happen when I remove my “work account” and leave my Microsoft account?  Everything is backed up on Onedrive, I just don’t know what to expect because when I went to remove it, it warned me about losing data and settings.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

    Hello to the community,

Great information and feedback from all. I was working with Microsoft for over a month on this and no matter which solution/option I tested, I always received the TPM 80090016 error. It is unfortunate to say that the only option that worked for me was to manually have the user sign out from Teams and Outlook, and disconnect the M365 account from Settings > Accounts > Access work or school. After this has been performed I migrated the computer to the new domain successfully and without any TPM errors when the user have to manually sign in only to Teams and Outlook.

I believe this is a possible dependency of the M365 account in the Windows 10 OS since no matter what is done I always encountered the TPM 80090016 error. On the manual process mentioned I did not encountered the error after each migration test.

It is sad that the Microsoft development team cannot provide a straightforward solution to this issue that many customer experience.

I'm not sure what $dir was in the 1st path you posted.

However, under my AppData folder, I drilled down and found the Microsoft.AAD.BrokerPlugin... folder.

I deleted everything. It didn't allow me to delete everything at first. However, after going all the way to the final folder, I was able to delete the two files, and then all the upward folders until I was able to successfully delete the AAD folder.

Without rebooting, I opened up Outlook 365 and was able to successfully created a new profile to check my 365 mail that I'm able to get successfully on all my other devices.

It's nice to have things finally working again.

Thank you for the AAD folder deletion suggestion. It worked just fine for me.

Well, all the above fixes didn't work for me, but what worked for me is creating totally different account on the PC.

I discovered that the Account Name, and Log-in Name where two different things. This led for having Users Folder having a different name, and log-in account different.

Just created different account with same log-in/account name, and Users' folder, and that resolved everything.
