Error code 80090016 Trusted Platform Module has malfunctioned.

Hi Guys,

TPM Malfunctioned - Error 80090016 - Keyset does not exist

This one resolved my issue.

1. Go to your settings
2. Click Accounts
3. Click the Access work or school
4. Remove the email you're trying to access for Office365,Remote Desktop or what. (Work or school email)
5. Re-add the email you remove and try logging in again without restarting the PC.

Simple as that, it worked on my laptop, if you have trust issues restart the desktop or laptop and try it again.

I have a user which was having hardware issues with their laptop. Luckily we had a spare laptop which was the exact same model so I swapped the SSD over and that's when they started to experience the TPM error message. They have a 365 account and can't access any office related products unless its web based. 

They are also missing the folders below in registry edit not sure if that's related.

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Registration

We have tried clearing the TPM but that did nothing. Someone suggested deleting everything within C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Microsoft\NGC, but I saw some people had issues with the folder not recovering. 

It's a Lenovo E590, Intel based.

I had this issue after cloning/imaging my surface laptop 3 to a new surface laptop MS sent me since my 6 month old surface screen stopped working. This is a corporate laptop and not my personal so their are lots or programs apps and accounts in use. After imaging everything worked besides Microsoft Teams.

Microsoft Teams Error 80090016 "Your computer's trusted platform module has malfunctioned"

I tried all the solutions out there but nothing worked I figured out a solution that worked perfectly!

Open MMC as admin, add Certificates snap in but add it as computer account and choose local computer

Open the Personal folder and then the Certificates folder

I had two certificates with bunk "Issued To" entries however the "Issued By" entries correlated with Microsoft (something to do with my image not having the private key or something) deleted MS-ORGanization certs with incorrect "issued to" entries.

Uninstall Teams then re-install and log in! (you might get a different something went wrong pop-up just hit continue and it will work you also might need to click the sign out option after clicking continue!)
