Error code 80090016 Trusted Platform Module has malfunctioned.

When I try to add a new Office 365 email to my outlook I get the error below.   I think it's because of my "Work or school account" which I want to remove. I'm not sure how my email was signed up for this second account. I set up this computer for home use only, I won't be using any of the Microsoft Azure features.

My question is, what will happen when I remove my “work account” and leave my Microsoft account?  Everything is backed up on Onedrive, I just don’t know what to expect because when I went to remove it, it warned me about losing data and settings.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Navigate to the below directory on the affected profile:

    C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Packages

Rename the Microsoft.AAD.BrokerPlugin folder, log out, log back in and the error should disappear.

If you get the error, restart and sign back in.

    My environment:

I cloned a disk from an old PC to a new one.

    Result:

    Error 80090016 with Office365 licence.

    Solution:

    Remove the account from Office.

Remove the account from "Email & accounts" on Windows Settings.

Remove the PC association on https:\myaccount.microsoft.com/device-list

    Reactivate the Office.

    Worked for me.

    Hi Przemek,

No - Please do not delete anything!!!   All your documents, desktop shortcuts, bookmarks etc. are usually stored in your local Windows user profile and you will lose these if you do this wrong.

Please don't take offence, but with the questions you are asking, I'm getting the impression that you don't have a sufficient IT skillset to tackle this by yourself.  I would recommend you enlist the help of someone with greater IT skills to help you with this.

This fixes the TPM errors and associated problems, but it could be disastrous and you could lose a lot if not done correctly. I'd hate to be responsible for that.

    Best of luck,

    Laura

Laura, if I understand I should delete current user win profile and create a new one? Is that correct?

    Much appreciate!

    Przemek
