Yes I thought I might have jinxed it!! After the update installed successfully I noticed that the 47k items waiting to be indexed was reducing rapidly - 20 or so at a go and later in the day I noticed that items to be indexed was at 0 and the items indexed was at 290k. Also more usefully in Outlook the items waiting to be indexed had also gone down to 0. This seemed to be the case all the remainder of the day. With the speed up of indexing and 0 items remaining I made the rash decision that it had been fixed.

After your message I looked again and while the indexing does seem to be much quicker it is just recycling around the 4k items to be indexed. I gets down to 3800 items or so then suddenly jumps back to 5k items to be indexed. This just seems to go round and round making no progress. And Outlook index waiting to be indexed just keeps on growing with no reduction.

So it seems that they have speeded up indexing but not solved the issue.

Update done, rebuilt done, I still have to turn off and on manually Windows search

PPL, don't get fooled, same s..t as before, just a different day, my disappointment is bottomless, really, thruly umbelievable

Yes it seems that this last update has finally fixed the search indexing.

Considering that the problem arose in an ‘important’ update to Win11 last December I fail to understand why it has taken till now in July for the problem (hopefully) to be fixed.

Wow! Things are looking really good. My indexing operation was only showing as adding an average of around 8 items per day. I found the update, installed it and then started a new rebuild. So, after a few minutes, my total items rebuilt for the past couple of weeks of around 100, after re-starting rebuild, after some 10 minutes or so, is up to 8,000 items and rapidly increasing. At least that gives me great hope that the actual search operation will soon be to what it should be.

Many thanks, Gabriel and team, for getting this finally actioned - much appreciated. John L G

    Hi all,

Windows implemented some search indexing improvements in the latest Windows 11 update, July 21, 2022—KB5015882 (OS Build 22000.829) Preview (microsoft.com). Please make sure you have the latest updates installed and see if these help.

I will be adding these updates to the Outlook Known Issue shortly as well, Outlook Search might not display recent emails on Windows 11 (microsoft.com). Windows is supposed to be adding a release note in their article soon too.

Hi. Thanks for this. My indexing appears to now be working properly. I suspect it is because of this update or another recent one.
