Using Outlook for Android in business environments for email and scheduling
Has Microsoft forgotten that this exact behaviour (restricting end users from selecting/using another browser) resulted in them losing the anti-trust case 20 years ago?
This browser is no longer supported.
Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
Hi, I noticed that all my links in my Android Outlook app open in an in build browser instead of the app, (such as youtube) This is really frustrating as I have to do other steps to find the option to 'Open in browser' so it then opens in the youtube app. This is for all links amazon, twitter etc.
Is there any way to disable this option? I am unable to find it in settings withtin the app.
Thanks

Scroll all the way to the bottom of the options in Outlook, and hit the toggle beside "Use Default Browser."

The sheer level of ignorance about basic facts displayed in some of these posts is incredible. Microsoft never restricted end users from selecting/using another browser, and was never accused of doing so. They were accused of bundling Internet Explorer with Windows, which meant that some customers might not bother trying a competitor's browser. In Microsoft's appeal of the case, the appeals court judges accused the judge in the original of unethical conduct, and his rulings against Microsoft were overturned, though his findings of fact that Microsoft's dominance of the market for PC Operating Systems was a monopoly, and that Microsoft took actions to defend that market dominance, were maintained. In a later case in the EU, Microsoft was also required to provide a "ballot box" to facilitate users to download a 3rd party browser when setting up Windows - again, it was the very existence of Internet Explorer that was considered a problem, there was no restriction on users selecting or using another browser.

At the time, Microsoft argued that IE was integral to the operating system and could not be removed without making the operating system inoperable. That, and the fact that many of the default behaviours that needed a browser required IE and didn't allow the Windows end user to select their desired default browser, was why the case was brought. At the time, I had colleagues who testified in the case around the technical issues.
Hi all
I was getting the same problem since the last Outlook for Android update. Just found the fix on Reddit:
"They finally fixed this in the latest update. Go to the Outlook app, scroll all way down to the bottom and click the settings gear. Scroll down to Preferences. There is a new option for Use Default Browser."
This works as I've just tried it
