"The properties of the message have been changed" prompt when forwarding/replying in Outlook

When users open a message in its own window that has a pdf attachment and replies or forwards the message; when they close the original window, outlook prompts "The properties of the message <email_subject> have been changed. Want to save your changes to this message?"

Steps to recreate this issue:

  • Message must have pdf or txt attachment
  • Open the original message in its own window
  • Reply-to or forward the message
  • Closing original message that was previously opened in its own window

Attempts to disable add-ins or running outlook in safe-mode do not resolve this issue.

Hi All,

First, apologize for the inconvenience caused by this problem in Outlook Client. Microsoft has realized this issue and the dedicated outlook teams are working on this problem to fix it. It is a known issue in the current Outlook Clients, and a fix will be released to Office version 2106 on 2021/6/17. For the affected users please navigate to Outlook Web App as temporary workaround and wait for the new fix release with some more patience, thanks. For more details, please refer to "The properties of the message have been changed" prompt when forwarding/replying in Outlook.

Thanks for your understanding and patience.

Best Regards,

Oliver

Thank you Diane. Really do not understand how these changes happen. I really, really, really hate Windows10. I can say this because, thankfully, you do not work for Microsoft. I will stick it out another week or two.

    Stay safe/

Updates are automatically installed when outlook is restarted - if you are in the habit of leaving outlook open all the time, restart it once a day until you notice the error is gone.

And watch this thread - someone will post that it is fixed in the current channel versions. Then check for updates and restart Outlook.

    Hi all,

The Outlook Team says they are anticipating the fixed build to go out this Thursday 6/17/21. The fix will go out in Version 2105 Build 14026.xxxxx. I'll post back when I know the exact build and the time the update starts going out.

We have been experiencing the exact same issues. I have opened 2 support cases with Microsoft and gotten no where. We have tried everything that is listed in the many replies to this forum discussion. Nothing has resolved the issue. It all started shortly after the brief issue Outlook had with content in the body of a message not being viewable (early in May). I can't pinpoint any other changes that we would have made to cause this issue but it continues to happen to several of my end users including myself and it is not fixable!
