Family calendar not showing up

I have a Microsoft Family.  My wife and I are "organizers".  There is a Family Calendar.  I can see it on my iPad MS outlook app, on my iPhone MS Outlook App, at Outlook.com from a PC web browser.  But, I cannot see it (it's just not there!) in the Calendar app for Win 10.  My wife cannot see it on any device.  Why?

The family calendar in Outlook.com has moved to a new Outlook.com groups calendar. This change added the ability to invite others to family group events and to use a shared family email address.

The calendar is fully supported on Outlook.com and the Outlook mobile app but is no longer supported in other applications like the Windows 10 Mail app, the Outlook desktop app, as well as some third-party apps. None of your existing events or information were affected in the move.

We know that many of you would like to use your family calendar from other places and are actively investigating the best way to expose the calendar to a wider range of apps.  You can find more details about this change and how to use the new calendar here: Use shared family calendars in Outlook.com.

Hello Everyone,

We want to give a quick update on this issue and how were working to resolved it. We're in the final stages of testing to restore access to your family group calendar in the calendar app on windows, outlook desktop and the native clients on iOS and Android devices. If testing goes well, we hope to be able to release this update to you in early 2021. We understand how frustrating this is and appreciate your continued patience.

Hello and Happy New Year!

We have some good news to share – we're starting to release the updates to the family group calendar that were mentioned earlier in this thread. This update will make the family calendar available in the same applications as the old calendar such as the Calendar app on Windows, Outlook on Desktop, and the native clients on iOS and Android.

Thank you again for your feedback and patience, we’re excited to get this out so that you can continue getting the most use out of your calendar and keeping your family’s schedules organized. Let us know what you think in this thread when you get a chance to try it!

Hello Everyone,

Thank you for all the feedback and patience, we have collated the top questions to provide more clarity.

  1. When will the update be released ? It is rolling out now.  However, we are doing it slowly to make sure we don’t introduce any new issues. Rest assured we’re doing our best to get it to you as quickly as we can.
  2. How would user know the capability being restored ? If you can see your family calendar in the Windows 10 Mail app or any other place you had used it previously, you have the update! You can also tell in Outlook.com as your family calendar will move to the “other calendars” area in the left nav. Please note once you have the update some Family members may receive the calendar ahead of others by a few days.
  3. Is there user action to be done to restore feature / update ? No action is required on your part?– the update will happen in the background.

Hello Everyone,

As some of you have noticed, we recently released the calendar update to a wider audience. We learned a lot from our initial rollout and will continue to monitor the forums and our internal metrics to make sure everything looks good.~~~~

We’re continuing to increase the percentage of folks who have the update and if all goes according to plan, we’re hoping to get it into everyone’s hands in the next couple of weeks.

Thank you again for your feedback and let us know what you think in this thread when you get a chance to try it!

As per usual you (Microsoft) seem dead set on having your customers flee your platforms. It's the one constant in the ever changing landscape of tech.

You created Windows MCE and once it started gaining traction it was killed. WHS, same thing. Windows Mobile/Phone/Whatever-it-was-eventually-called, once it hit double digit market share in parts of the world, EU mainly, it was killed off. I could name dozens of similar experiences, but you no doubt get the idea.

You write "None of your existing events or information were affected in the move. ", but that's not strictly true. Every single one of our family's events were affected. Our Alexa's no longer notifies us about pre-planned events (we have scouts, little league and long-planned school events in there, setup so our Echoes will announce it during dinner time the day before the actual event). Our PCs no longer show any of the events. Our phones (various Samsung Galaxy S and Note devices) no longer display them by default, we had to go searching for them, but since this "calendar" no longer can sync to the Samsung Calendar app, it's impossible to have the phones display an intrusive alert about upcoming events. Best we can do is show a standard notification that often gets lost among the other eighteen notifications one gets an hour.

We've been paying for MS Office Home since the inception, but no more. We talked about abandoning ship when you started screwing around with the Microsoft Family settings a few years ago, but this time you've lost us. Come February the subscription wont be renewed and we'll start using some other calendar app that caters to our needs and doesn't treat all their consumer services like betas (so, Google is also out - and no longer just because of their invasive privacy policies). Considering we have single handedly "converted" a large number of people to Windows Phone, Xbox AND, as irony would have it, Outlook during the past years we'll be converting them away from MS at this time.

F you and your need to be the next Apple telling consumers what they need. We know exactly what we need, a reason we stayed with MS in the first place.

For those who are dealing with this disastrous implementation: a workaround is to open the calendar in Outlook.com, click on the event in the Family Calendar and use the option to "Add to my calendar"; that will make the appointment appear in your calendar. Editing it probably has no effect on the shared calendar and each family member should do the same but in the meantime the family members can have the visibility and alerts.

I don't understand why Microsoft takes so much time in rolling-back this poor implementation. This is not about a bug, it is about changing the original implementation with a new one that has much less functionality, is extremely much more limited and provides far less added value. Just accept that this is no better than the original shared calendar and there is no reason (I would have thought that you already figured out) to have another calendar app in an iPhone: what would be the reason to have to switch between two different apps to know if I have free time for an appointment? Because you forced me to use Outlook App to check the family calendar? Well, I will make a wild guess and bet that most of the users will switch to a shared iCloud or Google calendar instead and keep it as simple as check only one app.

Did the product manager thought that it will force people to install it? Or just didn't thought about iPhones and Androids? Did he still uses a Windows Phone? Just tell him that it is taking him way too much time to figure it out, just get back to the thing that worked well.
