Outlook Android app cannot login IMAP email server.

This suddenly started yesterday 3/4/2020.

I have 3 email accounts on my android Outlook app. Outlook.com, Google, my ISP's. The problem only happens with my ISP (comcast.net, IMAP).

Till yesterday night, I can send/retrieve emails from the same server without an issue with Outlook app.

First I noticed Outlook requested to re-enter email password. But it failed. So I deleted account, then added. Failed. I even removed Outlook app and re-installed it. Failed. Google and Outlook account are just fine.

I didn't change anything from my side. I can access Comcast email from Web/Windows 10 mail and even from the same phone using Samsung standard email app.

What was changed and how to solve it? I can use Samsung standard email app but I like Outlook.

    Thanks for pointing me in this direction :-) I too had a problem with SMTP protocol settings. Having admin-control over my SMTP-server (Postfix) I managed to dig into the server-logging to see what was actually happening during the connection-attempt.

    The server was configured as STARTTLS on port 465. The Outlook client does not do STARTTLS, as shown by the server log: first the client connected (at port 465) and then immediately disconnected without issuing the STARTTLS command.

    Solution was to change the server-config for port 465 by making it "pure TLS" instead of STARTTLS. Each new connection is immediately thrown into TLS encryption by the server without waiting for the STARTTLS command.

    @Microsoft

    1. Is it correct that the software is not at all compatible with STARTTLS SMTP servers?
    2. Can future versions of the software give an informative warning as to why does it fail. We are kept in the dark here, we dont even know whether it is the IMAP- or the SMTP-connection which is failing !
    3. Can future versions of the software not point us in the the wrong direction? In my case the problem was clearly STARTTLS, Yet
      1. First the Outlook client says: Login Error, The connection to your mail server timed out. Such a strange text, because the client disconnected from our SMTP-server immediately. Nothing is kept waiting.
      2. Next, the outlook client leads me to the text below, which is really not the point. The certificate was fine already. All I needed was to change the server config by replacing the STARTTLS setup with a pure TLS one. Both setups are depending on the same certificate.

    I'm really beyond asking MS for help. Look at the screenshot for my "chat" with Stephan. Last contact was at 1:52. It's now 2:23 and he's way gone. Typical MS. Broken apps and software and no support. I'm going to look for another mail client.

    I was able to resolve this issue, after using exactly the Mailserver hostname for which SSL is enabled in Plesk:

    Still not working after years. After month I tried to add my private IMAP server and mail again, with no luck. It feels like the client app is not working with starttls and different domains in server and mail address. I mean, this is so basic. 100% sure that this is, because MS wants you to give up and use outlook mail accounts.
