Outlook Android app cannot login IMAP email server.

This suddenly started yesterday 3/4/2020.

I have 3 email accounts on my android Outlook app. Outlook.com, Google, my ISP's. The problem only happens with my ISP (comcast.net, IMAP).

Till yesterday night, I can send/retrieve emails from the same server without an issue with Outlook app.

First I noticed Outlook requested to re-enter email password. But it failed. So I deleted account, then added. Failed. I even removed Outlook app and re-installed it. Failed. Google and Outlook account are just fine.

I didn't change anything from my side. I can access Comcast email from Web/Windows 10 mail and even from the same phone using Samsung standard email app.

What was changed and how to solve it? I can use Samsung standard email app but I like Outlook.

    @Microsoft

    1. Is it correct that the software is not at all compatible with STARTTLS SMTP servers?
    2. Can future versions of the software give an informative warning as to why does it fail. We are kept in the dark here, we dont even know whether it is the IMAP- or the SMTP-connection which is failing !
    3. Can future versions of the software not point us in the the wrong direction? In my case the problem was clearly STARTTLS, Yet
      1. First the Outlook client says: Login Error, The connection to your mail server timed out. Such a strange text, because the client disconnected from our SMTP-server immediately. Nothing is kept waiting.
      2. Next, the outlook client leads me to the text below, which is really not the point. The certificate was fine already. All I needed was to change the server config by replacing the STARTTLS setup with a pure TLS one. Both setups are depending on the same certificate.

    Thanks for pointing me in this direction :-) I too had a problem with SMTP protocol settings. Having admin-control over my SMTP-server (Postfix) I managed to dig into the server-logging to see what was actually happening during the connection-attempt.

    The server was configured as STARTTLS on port 465. The Outlook client does not do STARTTLS, as shown by the server log: first the client connected (at port 465) and then immediately disconnected without issuing the STARTTLS command.

    Solution was to change the server-config for port 465 by making it "pure TLS" instead of STARTTLS. Each new connection is immediately thrown into TLS encryption by the server without waiting for the STARTTLS command.

    Check this! I had the problem of a trailing Space which I entered accidentally after the username. It happened again and again due to auto-fill of the android keyboard.

    @Microsoft: Can future versions of the software trim this input for any trailing (or prefix) spaces ?

    Agree with the comments re poor Outlook for Android support. I wondered if StartTLS might be my problem, but couldn't find anyone who could even tell me if StartTLS was supported.

    BlueMail and GMail work first time with my ISP, but Outlook (even when it can login) fails to download my Inbox contents. Unusable for IMAP. Only reason I've not ununstalled it is I can't find another client that works with my Windows 10 Calendar.
