Outlook Android app cannot login IMAP email server.

This suddenly started yesterday 3/4/2020.

I have 3 email accounts on my android Outlook app. Outlook.com, Google, my ISP's. The problem only happens with my ISP (comcast.net, IMAP).

Till yesterday night, I can send/retrieve emails from the same server without an issue with Outlook app.

First I noticed Outlook requested to re-enter email password. But it failed. So I deleted account, then added. Failed. I even removed Outlook app and re-installed it. Failed. Google and Outlook account are just fine.

I didn't change anything from my side. I can access Comcast email from Web/Windows 10 mail and even from the same phone using Samsung standard email app.

What was changed and how to solve it? I can use Samsung standard email app but I like Outlook.

    I've installed the latest version.

I can still receive emails for the IMAP accounts which I already have configured in the App but am still unable to send.

I am unable to add an additional IMAP account provided via my ISP

    I get the error:-

    "Log-In Error

The connection to your email server timed out. Please check your email settings"

Doesn't matter whether I configure manually or automatically and I know for a fact that the email settings are correct. I do this for a living.

Lets face it. It's apparent that Microsoft have zero interest in resolving the issue. A huge company, one of the richest in the world, that can write a whole Operating system for Servers, businesses and home use could fix a simple email issue in 5 minutes if they wanted to, although I have to say I'm bewildered as to why not.

I continue to use the Mobile app as it works fine with my outlook.com address and it allows me to sync my calendar with Office 365 on my desktops.

But for email addresses provided via my ISP I have to use alternative apps on my phone

    Hi

I am on the latest version and still can't log in. I also get the error:

"The connection to your mail server timed out” error in Outlook

Doing further research I found a current Microsoft document that directly refers to this issue and the problem lies with our ISP's certification and that

Both TLS 1.0 and 1.1 are deprecated. Outlook for iOS and Outlook for Android now block users from signing into an environment that uses TLS 1.1 or 1.0. They support only versions of Exchange Server and operating system environments that use TLS 1.2 or later versions.

If your operating system currently uses TLS 1.2, the issue might be caused by an expired TLS certificate.

Here is the link to the document:

“The connection to your mail server timed out” error in Outlook for iOS or Outlook for Android - Exchange | Microsoft Docs

    Hope this helps.

    Ciao

Mine is not working... Is yours really working?

After trying several port configurations and being able to add the mweb.co.za account every time BUT not being able to download folders in the inbox or send outgoing email, I tried the following:

     * Removed the mweb account from Outlook

     * Shut down and restart my phone

     * Restart Outlook

     * Added account using the advanced settings

     * Added IMAP settings but did not specify any port

     * Added SMTP settings but didn't specify port.

Account added successfully. Folders downloaded and email history available.

Sending emails out is still not working. Image

    Hi Spikes.

Is MWeb IMAP still working for you?

I'm also with MWeb but my email extension is ...@iafrica.com.

IMAP worked for me till October 2020 then stopped.

Since then, I've been using POP3 unfortunately which has also now stopped working.

What used to work for me was imap.iafrica.com:143 and smtp.iafrica.com:587.

MWeb said I should use imap.mweb.co.za:143 and smtpauth.mweb.co.za:587

Trying it without port numbers I get a Timed-Out message.

Could I please ask, what settings did you use?

Thanks. Your response would be appreciated.

    Baie dankie. Groete George

Here we go again! No surprise...

Outlook for Android as usual is malfunctioning...

It's obvious that Microsoft is unable or unwilling to fix this eternally broken app. In the meantime we are all getting comfortable with other apps that work intelligently and smoothly.

    The problem now is SMTP

So the new email push notifications works for you?

The problem now is SMTP, it seems to be that only Outlook for Android tries to connect via SSL/TLS instead of StartTLS for port 587.

Port 465 SSL/TLS & IMAP server seems to be working.

The other difference that i sometimes see is that the autodiscover file is forcing TLS instead of negotiating to setup a TLS connection.

It would be very appreciated if encryption options would be added so that users can manage this manually, on the other hand, the problem is only with Outlook for Android and does not effect iOS or Desktop.
