My outlook ribbon's font size is suddenly massive. How do I change it back to a reasonable size like the rest of the app?

I tried changing app text size settings on my computer but this shrunk everything else. I just want to reduce the size of the RIBBON ONLY in my outlook app. No clue why this has happened.

As you can see below, the ribbon is very large but the rest of the app is normal, as it should be. Please help.

Here is a crazy fix that I found...

Seems that when you start Outlook the Ribbon is an inconsistent font to that of the Calendar (which in my case was the correct font). The fix:

  • Open Calendar in a NEW window (right click on the calendar icon on the bottom left of the Outlook form - choose "Open in New Window")
  • Close the Outlook Mail Window. This will leave the Calendar window the only active Outlook window
  • On the Calendar Window - Right Click on the Envelope icon and choose "Open in New Window"

Your font will be restored back to the smaller font..

Crazy but true!!

Remember - if you can't explain it - Feature it!!

    Hi Marisa Maxwell,

Thanks for your post with the picture. However, based on this document: Customize the ribbon in Office, we cannot reduce the size of the ribbon or the size of the icons on the ribbon.

So, about your problem, we suggest you can try to modify the APP text size settings on your computer to a small size.

Or you can check and make sure to change the ribbon mode to Mouse Mode by clicking on the Touch/Mouse Mode icon and select Mouse mode, which will remove unnecessary white space around buttons, and, thus, reduce the ribbon size.

    Best regards,

    Jennifer

I had the same problem. From the Outlook options tab of customizing the ribbon, General - make sure "Optimize for compatibility" is selected

To anyone else stumbeling onto this. I had this same problem as the poster and figured out that scaling text up then back down in windows settings fixed it.

    1. Open settings.
    2. Find Ease of Access
    3. Find Display
    4. There should be a slider for chaning text size. Max the slider and press apply.
    5. Set the slider back down to default or whatever else you had.
    6. May or may not have to restart but that worked for me.
