Outlook app draining battery

I tried to post a question to this thread:

However the 'reply' seems to be greyed out when I try. So to continue...

When I press the 'battery' button on my Samsung android phone, it consistently says the outlook app is eating 60% of battery power. Similar to the last question in the previous thread; can microsoft advise please:-

a) when a fix for this will be published please? or

b) recommend an equivalent non microsoft product that works well connecting to outlook.com that doesn't voraciously eat battery power?

Any help is appreciated.

    I monitored my phone for a day and all was well.  However, the next day I turned "Save Contacts" on for both email accounts and watched the battery drain go through the roof again.  I also noticed that the phone was very sluggish doing anything at all, just like JeffreyTz posted below.  Although I don't know where I can measure CPU usage in Android, this would definitely imply processing taxation.  

    The solution?  For now, either live without your Outlook contacts or switch to another email app on your phone.  I plan to find a replacement for Outlook on Monday when I have some time to find superior alternatives.  I will post my findings next week...

    Outlook cooked my S6 battery (caused it to buldge from overheating forcing replacement @$$$) and put me over my data plan limit for a penalty $$ before if finally figured it out with the help of this board posts (thank you all!).

    What was a respected MS product is not worth any more frustration or expense. Did a lot of searching and testing to find a replacement called "Nine" E-Mail & Calendar." It is a paid app ($14.99) but proved to be worth it. You have access to Outlook Calendar, Contacts, Task List and Notes. Never going back to Outlook again.

    Same serious problem. No fix. No choice but to delete Outlook.

    How do you release an update so poorly executed that it actually destroys phones? And still can't fix it?

    I have uninstalled and am trying Nine Email on a 14 day trial. So far it seems great. Everything that Outlook promises but doesn't deliver! It does cost a few dollars but that is fine. It also does more than the Outlook app so even if they do fix Outlook, I am afraid that I have gone.

    Sorry Microsoft but that seems to be the story on many of your products over the years. I used to be a staunch supporter. Now,  slowly but surely you seem to be messing up and the only M stuff that I still use is because I have no choice.

    How has Microsoft not fixed this yet!?  I'm just going to move all my corporate devices off the app.  Not worth the trouble anymore...not getting any responses from support now.
