Outlook app draining battery

I am having battery drain issues on multiple corporate Android phones from recent update.  We are mostly an iOS shop, but I have 8 Android devices and 5 have contacted me Monday and Tuesday (other 3 did not update yet) of this week saying their phones are dying in a matter of hours and getting VERY hot.  If it was only 1 device, I could see maybe if it was something else causing this on phone, but when 5 people all have same issue all of a sudden...?  One was unable to recharge phone because it was too hot.  Quick work around was to force stop the app to cool down, but after some time it turns itself back on.  For now I switched them over to built in Mail client, but for security reasons, we prefer to use Outlook app.

I've uninstalled app and reinstalled and same thing.  Is there a fix for this yet Microsoft?

Microsoft told me to disable the contacts synchro on each account. This solves the problem of battery discharging but you can't see your contacts. I just enable it when I need and then immediately disable. 

Microsoft apologise which is of no use at all......

I moved to the BlackBerry Hub Suite...excellent and no issues. Works perfect.

I hope they are looking more into "turn off contacts sync" to fix.  Our people out in the field rely on that to work.  

What is odd is that the 3 Androids that is is fine on, have no update for Outlook.  Did they maybe pull it?  

I contacted Outlook support on my iOS device and explained to them my issue and they said I would need to support issue from a phone having an issue...I explained to them I can't do that because the phones are overheating causing them not to charge.  It was like talking to a brick wall...

Just had another update in May and it has this issue again.

"While resetting the app's cache is a probable solution, we also suggest that you uninstall and reinstall the Outlook app on your Android device to start it fresh." Did work for me but is a pain to have to do this so frequently. Seems like every other month I have to do this then I have to re-add all my accounts which does take a while.

So far it's still working fine for me. I uninstalled, reinstalled & then turned off the auto updates in my Google Play Store. I manually go in & update my apps except for Outlook & battery is doing fine. So, if you do the uninstall & reinstall, do not allow it to update.
