Outlook app draining battery

In Addition to draining issues I also have the following. Posted in another area.

I think my question is being misunderstood. I will list the issue I am having.

1. Own Samsung S8
2. Downloaded the Outlook for Android App.
3. Added Gmail account (all good)
4. Added Outlook account (all good)
5. Day later added a new Gmail contact via desktop
6. That new contact is now on my native contact app on the phone
7. Go to Outlook app to compose email and the contacts email does not populate
8. Then add that same contact to my Outlook.com account

9. Go to Outlook app to compose email and the contact appears because it is now in my Outlook contacts even though it is in my Gmail contacts on the native contact app on the phone.

10. Overall when the Outlook app is downloaded and a Gmail email address is added it pulls Gmail contacts. The problem is as contacts are added the new ones do not appear when initiating a new email.
11. I hope I explained this correctly. Any help would be welcomed for I like the app very much.

Where do I find the autostart settings?

I rarely post stuff but I may have found a way around outlooks buggy updates that result in massive battery drain. My problem started with an update around May 2, 2018. Phone hot and outlook using 30 plus %. Would kill full battery on s7 edge in a few hours. That days before would easily last a whole day.

First, if your outlook is currently working for you, turn off autoupdate in play store for this app.

If like me you had it on and are now searching for the reason and fix for outlook killing your battery, here's what I did...revert to old build. Which cant easily do, but at the same time not difficult. Took me as long to make the decision to do it as it did to actually do it.

1. You'll need to make sure you can side load apps. Google around for your phone but theres a check box in your settings to load apps (apks) from unknown sources.

1b. Turn off autoupdate for outlook, thought of this below and added it here.

2. Backing up app data may save a little time later to restore email accounts, but easy to add accounts after reinstall outlook.
3. Uninstall Outlook from your phone. This was the tough decision, but must do it. Doesn't take long to readd accounts and go thru and adjust settings to liking later.
4. Download an old version of the app. I picked this one below because I know my app was working well on this date and this site was universally recommended. Click Download APK button a little ways down page:

5. Install that app/apk after download.
6. Open app and setup accounts as normally would. Will have to fix your settings to your liking...notifications, calendar, etc
7. Turnoff autoupdate in play store if you didn't already for outlook. Probably should do this before install old version so it doesn't try to update right away.

This has worked for me, at least for the last day. As to when to update tbe app in the future, that's a gamble but hopefully this method will always work if have to revert to old version.

Also this would probably work for other apps if you don't like them post update .

Update...still working fine 5/9, that 5/2 updated seems to be a problem

I am having battery drain issues on multiple corporate Android phones from recent update.  We are mostly an iOS shop, but I have 8 Android devices and 5 have contacted me Monday and Tuesday (other 3 did not update yet) of this week saying their phones are dying in a matter of hours and getting VERY hot.  If it was only 1 device, I could see maybe if it was something else causing this on phone, but when 5 people all have same issue all of a sudden...?  One was unable to recharge phone because it was too hot.  Quick work around was to force stop the app to cool down, but after some time it turns itself back on.  For now I switched them over to built in Mail client, but for security reasons, we prefer to use Outlook app.

I've uninstalled app and reinstalled and same thing.  Is there a fix for this yet Microsoft?

Microsoft told me to disable the contacts synchro on each account. This solves the problem of battery discharging but you can't see your contacts. I just enable it when I need and then immediately disable. 

Microsoft apologise which is of no use at all......
