Outlook 2016 with Office 365 account keeps prompting for password. After entering it, an error pops up "Your computer's Trusted Platform Module has malfunctioned. If this error persists, contact your system administrator with the error code 80090030. It affects Outlook login only.

The word on the street is that Outlook is wanting MFA.  So either you have to turn on MFA or disable ADAL

Fix get them onto MFA or

Close Outlook

Open Regedit

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\Identity

Create REG_DWORD

EnableADAL

Hi Sam,

Based on the error message, the issue is related to Trusted Platform Module(TPM). You need to check whether your TPM works correctly. You try to back up your data and clear TPM. It will reset your security processor to its default settings. For your reference:

    Hey Susan,

    The way you've written this out isn't very understanding for users.

    Once you've visited the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\Identity folder within Regedit, right-click on the right-hand side of the page and select  "New DWORD" the value will be set to 0 by default.

    Restart the PC and the issue has been resolved.

    This worked for me too - have been battling with this issue on and off for weeks, so very glad to have finally solved it. Thank you!

    Worth noting, I also received the below errors before I messed things up enough to get the TPM error, so if you're seeing the below, Susan's reg fix might be the one for you - it really comes down to if MFA has been enabled on your Office 365 logon or not. As usual with vague Microsoft errors though, there's also potentially a few thousand other things the below could be:

    "Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened. You must connect to Microsoft exchange with the current profile you can synchronize your folders with your outlook file (.ost)."
