The word on the street is that Outlook is wanting MFA.  So either you have to turn on MFA or disable ADAL

Fix get them onto MFA or

Close Outlook

Open Regedit

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\Identity

Create REG_DWORD

EnableADAL

Hi Sam,

Based on the error message, the issue is related to Trusted Platform Module(TPM). You need to check whether your TPM works correctly. You try to back up your data and clear TPM. It will reset your security processor to its default settings. For your reference:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4096339/windows-10-device-protection-in-windows-defender-security-center#clearTPM

For more details about TPM, you can follow the link below:

Regards,

Carlos

This is the correct solution. You must disconnect all accounts in the settings applet and then re-add them in the same settings applet. Deleting files and clearing the TPM is useless.

Fixed similar issue here, my fix:

    1. Signout Mail App, signout Outlook (or use any other Office product, I signed out Word since Outlook froze on error above).
    2. Go to Office.com, My Account -> Apps & Devices -> Office / Devices, Signout all devices here.
    3. Uninstall Office - Control Panel -> Program and Features -> Office, Uninstall
    4. Reboot
    5. Go to Office.com, Install Office
    6. Launch Outlook, sign in, username & password, now MFA works.

Just posting my fix so may help others. Have an awesome Friday!

There is a resolution which is fairly simple and does not require changes to the registry. It works on most machines we have encountered.

Step 1) Navigate to Access Work or School Accounts

Step 2) Disconnect the work or school account that is having issues

Step 3) Click the Connect button to connect your work or school account

    • Go through any MFA prompts and allow your organization to manage the device.

Step 4) Open Outlook, Teams, or One Drive (whichever app was getting the error)

    • If prompted to Sign in again, do so and enter MFA. It should now open normally and not continue prompting over and over.
