iPhone and Outlook 365 contacts not syncing

Good morning all -

I have an iPhone and Outlook 365.  I use the iPhone native contacts / calendar / email apps.  I use Outlook on my laptop.  I use a live.com account for my calendar and contacts.  I do not use the Outlook app on my phone.

When I make a calendar item it immediately syncs with my phone, regardless of whether I made the appointment on the phone or on the laptop in Outlook.

HOWEVER the same is not true with Contacts. 

  1. Contacts I make or edit in Outlook on my laptop sync right away in the phone.
  2. Existing contacts that are edited on the phone sync right away in Outlook.
  3. New contacts made in the phone do not sync.
  4. If I edit the new iPhone contact it still won't sync.

What is going on and how can I fix this?  This is happening on two phones in my family.

    your logic makes sense, but 1, it appears i have it set to default to my email, which on the phone is outlook.  2, it used to work and then stopped without my changing anything.

    assumption has always been it's update related and i just deal with it and try to enter info on my desktop.  

    an interesting detail that i'm not sure i realized.  if the contact already exists, most likely created on computer and i edit it on iphone, then it updates everywhere.  Just like a new or updated entry on computer.  it's only new contacts on phone that don't sync.

    I think that almost no one has read this thread. Certainly there is the usual cut/paste link spam, but there are a large number of responses that talk about iCloud. The OP is asking about Office 365. And I am having the exact same issue. Everything except contacts are syncing from Office 365. Outlook for iOS is working. But I cannot use the Apple Contacts app (used by iMessage) because my Office 365 contacts are not there. I have literally tried every piece of advice in this thread and on the Apple support site. This is a real issue. The question is whether it is an Office 365 issue or an Apple issue. In any case, two giants are pointing fingers at each other and no one is going to fix anything.

    I have this issue too.  It's been going on for a couple of years.  Why is it only the contacts aren't sinking.  I notice my pictures have started to not sync too.  The posted fixes for that don't work either.

    just added a new contact to the phone the other day as a test.  no go.  oh well.  haven't had any photo issues, but might be set up differently.  i will continue to just chalk this up to the fact that no matter how hard they all try, some issues between tech companies will never truly be fixable.
