iPhone and Outlook 365 contacts not syncing

Good morning all -

I have an iPhone and Outlook 365.  I use the iPhone native contacts / calendar / email apps.  I use Outlook on my laptop.  I use a live.com account for my calendar and contacts.  I do not use the Outlook app on my phone.

When I make a calendar item it immediately syncs with my phone, regardless of whether I made the appointment on the phone or on the laptop in Outlook.

HOWEVER the same is not true with Contacts. 

  1. Contacts I make or edit in Outlook on my laptop sync right away in the phone.
  2. Existing contacts that are edited on the phone sync right away in Outlook.
  3. New contacts made in the phone do not sync.
  4. If I edit the new iPhone contact it still won't sync.

What is going on and how can I fix this?  This is happening on two phones in my family.

    Hello Chris, I troubleshot and recorded the results of every option. iCloud for Windows will not work as seamless and perfect the way iTunes alone would seamlessly sync with Outlook.  In the end I found I need to manually connect my phone to my desktop, open Outlook and open iCloud for Windows (not knowning which actually forces the sync) and wait to see the updates.  Another thing, don’t look in your traditional default Outlook contact folder for the contacts added via the iPhone. You must now look in the iCloud Contacts folder in Outlook. Microsoft won’t admit iTunes worked better and iCloud for Windows is a failure.

    Though I have Office 365, (both a business and home premium account) my default email address is an Outlook.com account and not an Exchange account.  What now?

    sadly there appears to be no fix.  i've been offered many suggestions and non work. 

    best part is there was a ms 365 issue the other day and now it looks like contacts created on computer aren't syncing to the phone either.  so i'm screwed. 

    hoping that's just an isolated incident i'm dealing with

    I have been dealing with this for over 7 months now.  No fix and quite a bit of time wasted with Microsoft and Apple.....
