iPhone and Outlook 365 contacts not syncing

Good morning all -

I have an iPhone and Outlook 365.  I use the iPhone native contacts / calendar / email apps.  I use Outlook on my laptop.  I use a live.com account for my calendar and contacts.  I do not use the Outlook app on my phone.

When I make a calendar item it immediately syncs with my phone, regardless of whether I made the appointment on the phone or on the laptop in Outlook.

HOWEVER the same is not true with Contacts. 

  1. Contacts I make or edit in Outlook on my laptop sync right away in the phone.
  2. Existing contacts that are edited on the phone sync right away in Outlook.
  3. New contacts made in the phone do not sync.
  4. If I edit the new iPhone contact it still won't sync.

What is going on and how can I fix this?  This is happening on two phones in my family.

    It's been a while since I started this thread and I am dismayed to see all the issues people are still having.

    I started this because I had a simple problem with a simple configuration:

    I use the native Apple calendar, email and phone contacts.

    I use Office 365 / Outlook on my laptap.

    I want them to sync.

    They did except if I made a contact on the iPhone.

    Then all of a sudden, after getting an iPhone 11Pro and a software update, it works fine.

    I have noticed that this discussion has continued on for lots of others with other configurations, including enterprise, Outlook app, etc.  

    It's unforgiveable that two companies that are crucial to most people's daily functioning can't get it together to care enough to fix these issues.

    CBroda,

    May have found a resolution to your issue.

    If you set the default group on your iPhone to your Outlook account, in Settings>Contacts>Default Group...

    Then all new contacts will show up seamlessly. If you want to move old contacts, then you will need a contact mover application. They can be found on the app store, and it was worth the few dollars it cost.

    Figured this will help you, or anyone else trying to fix this issue.

    We were having want looked like same problem.  Add contact on iphone then search on outlook pc. No contact found. We discovered that search had an option on the upper left of options bar to search “all contacts”, the default for us was search “current  folder”. We selected search “all contacts” in search and there it was. Not sure what folder the iphone sync put the contact in but “all folders” found it for us. The contact was there we just did not have correct settings to see it.

     I am asking for someone from the Microsoft Outlook team to chime in here.

    LOL!!!! You'll be waiting a very very very long time before you get that! LOL!!!

    Quit using the iPhone's built in garbage app and use the Microsoft Outlook app. It is the supported app and you can get support from within the app from Microsoft.
