iPhone and Outlook 365 contacts not syncing

Good morning all -

I have an iPhone and Outlook 365.  I use the iPhone native contacts / calendar / email apps.  I use Outlook on my laptop.  I use a live.com account for my calendar and contacts.  I do not use the Outlook app on my phone.

When I make a calendar item it immediately syncs with my phone, regardless of whether I made the appointment on the phone or on the laptop in Outlook.

HOWEVER the same is not true with Contacts. 

  1. Contacts I make or edit in Outlook on my laptop sync right away in the phone.
  2. Existing contacts that are edited on the phone sync right away in Outlook.
  3. New contacts made in the phone do not sync.
  4. If I edit the new iPhone contact it still won't sync.

What is going on and how can I fix this?  This is happening on two phones in my family.

    thanks Dan.  you're right.  same issue i have and the one i posted when i kickstarted this discussion a while back.  i read the post earlier and didn't even clock that as i'm just so desperate for it to work.  maybe i also thought that by doing that it would fix all the issues.  here's the thing.  it's never getting fixed via this forum.  sadly.  people have offered lots of great ideas.  it's been a glitch many of us suffer from and nothing has worked.  maybe as the originator of this thread states, it'll fix when we buy new phones.  that's all apple wants, is for us to buy the next phone.   this issue has plagues me for years.  i don't see it getting better.

    Again, the problem is NOT that the contacts from Outlook don't show up on the iPhone.  It is that the contacts saved to the iPhone do not show up on Outlook!!!

    For Outlook 365 contact sync issues follow the below steps

    1. Open your outlook App in mobile
    2. Go to settings
    3. Click on the mail account for which you want to sync the contacts
    4. Turn on Save Contact options.

    All your outlook/company email contacts which are saved on your email account ill be saved to your phone.

    ok, i am about to try this as it's an option i've never seen.  i slide it over and it says 'would you like to save your 3600 outlook contacts to your iphone'

    the answer is obviously yes, BUT, my iphone already has most of these contacts.  it's just been new ones i enter on my phone over the last few years which have not synced back.  

    will it just overwrite them and all be fine or will it cause some unforeseen issue i can't expect.  

    maybe, hopefully this is the answer.
