Outlook 2016 - Save Multiple Attachments not saving to Network Drives

I recently updated a user from Office 2010 to Office 2016 through Office 365, soon after the update, the user informed me that they were no longer able to use the "Save Multiple Attachments" feature in Outlook to save multiple attachments to a Network location.

This method can save files to a Local drive without an issue, but will not save to a Mapped Network folder. I have tested this on two other computers, both in a different environment, with the same results.

Files can be saved individually, even through the Save Multiple Attachments dialogue, it is only when attempting to save 2 or more files simultaneously. I'm hoping someone knows of a solution to this issue as this user can receive upwards of 10+ attachments in a single email for a project that they need to make available to a project folder.

They did not have this issue prior to the upgrade. Any thoughts or recommendations would be appreciated.

Hi Angela,

No, right now the issue is still being investigated and there are two workarounds described in the following article, you can keep monitoring it to get the latest update about it.

  1. Save the documents to your own computer, and then copy them to the shared network drive.
  2. Save the documents one at a time to the shared network drive.

Hi All,

I totally understand the inconvenience this thing may cause you. Our related team are currently working on this issue. As workarounds, you can save the attachments one by one or revert to an earlier version. Your time and understanding will be highly appreciated.

Best Regards,

Iry

So it didn't take long for me to narrow down the update. Rolling back from Version 1711 (Build 8730.2127) December 12, 2017 to Version 1710 (Build 8625.2139) November 27, 2017 restored "Save All Attachments" to a network location functionality on my primary environment, I will be testing other environments over the next few days.

This is likely why this isn't a more widely reported issue as it would only affect users on the Monthly Channel. As users on the Semi-Annual or Deferred Channels are still on builds Version 1708 (Build 8431.2131) and Version 1705 (Build 8201.2213) respectively.

As said before, this is an Outlook issue, an Outlook update broke the functionality, specifically Version 1711 (Build 8730.2127) December 12, 2017. Upon re-applying the update to Version 1711, I lose the functionality again.

For anyone experiencing this issue, while it is not an ideal situation, instructions on rolling back Office 2016 Click-to-Run can be found here:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2770432/how-to-revert-to-an-earlier-version-of-office-2013-or-office-2016-clic

And version history for each update channel can be found here:

    https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Version-and-build-numbers-of-update-channel-releases-ae942449-1fca-4484-898b-a933ea23def7?ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US

Sadly this means that for my users experiencing this issue, I have to keep them rolled back until an update comes along that actually fixes the problem brought forth in the latest update.

But with the new update, Word will now help us create a Resume for LinkedIn????  That's their priority.  Microsoft Office is moving away from Office work and productivity.  Examples are this Save All Attachment issue being ignored, AutoSave only working with OneDrive or Sharepoint (yeah because we all want sensitive documents automatically saved to the OneDrive), Track Changes (a big feature for office workers) is outdated and unproductive; years everyone has asked that we have the option to permanently stop tracking formatting and to have the comments work better and have numbers on the list that one can print out; etc., etc., etc.   But all of the updates have been new useless features and self promotions.  I really wish there was a viable Office program that really catered to Office production.
