Outlook 2016 Auto-Complete for Contact Groups Not Working

Thanks to both of you for your replies and the information about how auto-complete works.  I understand the feature better now.  So it looks like even if I send an email to a group, auto-complete does not remember the group for a subsequent email.  Auto-complete works fine for individual addresses, just not for groups.

We are using Office 365 Pro Plus Version 1707, Build 8326.2073.  Someone else here using 365 (V1707, slightly later Build) does not have this issue with auto-complete remembering groups.  This is not a huge problem (costs me an extra click), but it's odd that this used to work and now it does not.  The same time that group auto-complete stopped working, the order of my address books also changed - moving my local contacts below the global contact list.  This may be completely unrelated, though.

If you have any other ideas about what may be causing group auto-complete to not work on my PC, I would appreciate those.  Otherwise, thank you again for your responses - and the auto-complete education!

Hi there,

I have this issue as well.  Autocomplete DID work with distribution lists in Outlook 2010.  So this is another handy feature that Microsoft has removed in 2016/365?

I want to inform you that we are definitely looking into this issue. It is currently being investigated, and we will update you as soon as we have a possible resolution for this issue.     For the autocomplete, we have got notice that we are investigating this issue and I have reported it to our related team. I will post back if I get any update from the related team.

    Since the original version should work well, I suggest you revert back to the earlier version as a workaround. For your reference:

    The first I noticed changes by a recent update was when the auto-complete results in the To: field appeared in a larger font and with both the contact name and email address - not particularly useful.  Now I realise it will not call up group contact names

    • which really is an inconvenience.  The settings referred to in this and other comments elsewhere are all as they should be.

    Hi Connie,

    So may I know if you have the same issue that the auto-complete works for individual addresses, but except distribution list? If yes, please provide us the information as below:

    1. If all the distribution lists cannot be shown?
    2. How about other groups?
    3. How about others in your organization, if they occur the same issue with you?
    4. Have you checked the option Use Auto-Complete List to suggest names when typing in the To, Cc and Bcc linesin outlook? For your reference: https://support.microsoft.com/en-sg/help/2199226.

    I have checked the feature hasn’t been removed in outlook 2016.

    So, if you have checked the option and the issue persists, please try to upgrade your outlook version: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Install-Office-updates-2ab296f3-7f03-43a2-8e50-46de917611c5.
