Outlook 2016 crashes

I have been using Outlook 2016 in Office 365 for a long time and Outlook starting crashing June 19 2017. This may be related to an upgrade of Windows 10 or Office. I have two accounts setup in Outlook, one is a Microsoft Exchange and the other one is IMAP. I have a rule to move messages from the Exchange account to the IMAP account. This has worked perfectly until yesterday. When I start Outlook, it crashes as soon as it starts updating the Inbox. The Event Viewer in Windows gives the following:

The problem stops if I delete the OUTLMMIME.DLL file, but then I cannot transfer email between the accounts. If anyone has a solution, I would really appreciate it. Thanks,

Victor

The issue with the crash moving email to an IMAP account was caused by a change in the service.  A new property was introduced that Outlook was not handling well.  The Outlook Team has developed a fix for it and it will first release to Current Channel ETA 6/29-6/30 currently scheduled as build 16.0.8229.2073.  Fixes for all other versions including MSI are in process but not yet scheduled.

In addition to releasing fixes the Outlook Team has requested the property that caused it in the service be disabled until we can get fixes out.  My understanding is that should happen this morning 6/28.  After this is turned off you should not see the issue anymore with new email but it will probably happen with email already stamped with the property.

The fixed build is going to start rolling out today 7/13.  It is not showing yet for me but please try to force the install by clicking File, Office Account, Update Options, Update Now.  The build will be 16.0.8229.2086.

If Outlook will not start, open Word and click File, Account, Update Options, Update Now.

When builds first go out they are throttled so it will be slowly available at first and then more widely as time goes.

If you have Outlook on Current Channel and on the fixed build version 16.0.8229.2073 then you should not have any issues.  The fixed build is not yet showing up on the released version pages but I notice Victor was able to update to it today, https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Version-and-build-numbers-of-update-channel-releases-ae942449-1fca-4484-898b-a933ea23def7?ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US.  A new install will pick up the latest build if it is published.  If that fixed build is not out yet you can install Office Insider Slow that has the fix, https://products.office.com/en-us/office-insider.

I'm with you...I can't get work done!  I ran XP/Office Pro 2002 for 16 years, no prob.  Since I built my computer in Oct. 2016, I've spent well over 75 hours on the phone with techs who generally know far less than I do. ...

    Thanks, y'all!

I can fully relate to this 75 hours (and more) trying to get problems fixed. We should file a mass-action suit to get some financial compensation back for all the time we've wasted on faulty products!

Some support is excellent, but most is not worthy of the job title. It's not their fault, they just do what they are trained to do. The problem is again with Microsoft for not spending the millions, or billions, to have better quality products and better trained (therefore expensive) technical support people who can think on their feet.

Speaking of the latter, one of my websites is hosted by a small-medium size west-coast USA hosting company who were in the news recently concerning their high regard for client privacy and not revealing unwarranted details to offials without due legal procedure. Anyway, their high standards spread across the small organisation. Every time I call or chat with support, on complex issues involving database configs and much more, their locally based people are outstanding, they really know their stuff, and they quickly resolve issues. They don't focus on one little area, they understand the inter-connections between different products and systems which means that issues are better understood and more quickly fixed.

How I wish we didn't have the narrow and silo approach at Microsoft, it's killing the company slowly; that's sad, I've used their products since the mid 1980's. Despite their higher revenues, I believe they will lose small and medium sized businesses over the next few years as they keep messing us around.

Come on MS, get these horrendous issues fixed in Office 365/16 and Windows 10, otherwise we'll be falling back to XP and Office 2003 running in a VM or similar, just to be able to work without interruption and with a good workflow, not interrupted by the newest stupid feature and putting everything else important behind another useless layer of candy. Why not just split Office into Business/Pro versions and another one for consumers, and admit that you got it wrong by trying to lump everything together. Or bring back Works! Although you'll need to rename it to "Sometimes Works" if the current crew of developers have anything to do with it!

I'm seriously wondering if we MS victims were to stage simultaneous 'hippie-style,' sign-wielding protests in large cities across the world, would we garner enough embarrassing news coverage that MS would FINALLY quit screwing around trying to turn their products into giant identity theft machines?  (Why do they care so much about me?  I've offered to have them come sit next to my desk and just watch everything I do, real-time, real-life, but nay, they ignored me - like they do all of us.)

Let's use this space to discuss alternatives to Microsoft products!

I use Win 10 Pro, Access, Excel, Word and Outlook.  Does anyone have experience with alternatives?  This OS and the Suite are giant, bug-ridden PoS (I like how you put that!), and I've had it.  I can't afford to switch to Apple.  So, what about Ubuntu, Linux, etc. and Open Office?  Any others you can recommend?

    Thanks, y'all!
