Running Outlook on the iMac causes the screen to flicker and eventually black out and reduce to half/split screen display.

If I don't run the Outlook app the Mac runs like clockwork.

With Outlook active, at some point the flickering begins and then gets progressively worse until the screen is completed fuzzed or it pops back to a half black screen (which continues to flicker intermittently - more often than not)

Whilst it sounds like a hardware issue (and I've ordered a new Mac thinking it was!) it appears to be tied to Outlook.

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015)

3.3 GHz Intel Core i5

8 GB 1867 MHz DDR3

AMD Radeon R9 M395 2048 MB

Mac OS 10.14.1 (18B75)

Outlook 16.19

Rebooting seems to clear it until we run Outlook again, then the cycle continues.

    Hello

    I have the same problem with OUTLOOK IMAC (V 16.29 (19090802)

    IMAC

    iMac (Retina 5K, 27 pouces, fin 2015)

    16 Go 1867 MHz DDR3

    The only solution go to when the screen flickering

    • PREFERENCE
    • DISPLAYS
    • SCALED

    And try and another size, then go to DEFAUT, the screen STOP FLICKERING

    This is the only solution :-(

    IMPORTANT:

    I have had the problem "solved" by going to low res, but recently while using IMOVIE, it happens again - so obviously there are other programs that can trigger the issue -

    I just took our (Pensacola State College) 2016 iMac to an Apple authorized service center for the display flickering issue.  They replaced the hard drive AND display.  Still having the same issue.  Obviously not a defective display or OS issue.  We are checking into the Skype theory.

    I checked/set the "Low Resolution" option in Outlook on our iMac that some recommended here and more than 2 days later the issue has not returned.

    I also had an issue with Outlook menus and sidebars going black intermittently on my Windows 10 PC using Outlook 2016 and even after I upgraded to 365.  The menus and sidebars would go black after a few minutes (never actually timed it) of inactivity.  All I had to do to bring them back was click anywhere inside the window.  I checked/set the "Disable hardware graphics acceleration" in the Outlook Options and that seems to have resolved this issue also.

    OK - I asked the question, kept searching and have found the answer.  I have a 27 inch iMac circa late 2016.  Issue is with Outlook and Apple os compatibility.  Checking the low resolution box in Outlook solved the problem.  Apple and Microsoft have finally admitted the problem and they are supposedly fixing the compatibility issue with the os update due in late september (catalina).  So for those who think (and advised) that you should ditch your iMac, lose all your data and the like, I am so happy I did not take your advice.  Thanks to everyone who commented
