Running Outlook on the iMac causes the screen to flicker and eventually black out and reduce to half/split screen display.

If I don't run the Outlook app the Mac runs like clockwork.

With Outlook active, at some point the flickering begins and then gets progressively worse until the screen is completed fuzzed or it pops back to a half black screen (which continues to flicker intermittently - more often than not)

Whilst it sounds like a hardware issue (and I've ordered a new Mac thinking it was!) it appears to be tied to Outlook.

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015)

3.3 GHz Intel Core i5

8 GB 1867 MHz DDR3

AMD Radeon R9 M395 2048 MB

Mac OS 10.14.1 (18B75)

Outlook 16.19

Rebooting seems to clear it until we run Outlook again, then the cycle continues.

    Reason I bought a 5k iMac is for the fantastic resolution ......Low resolution for me is not the fix -

    I think you are misunderstanding what low resolution mode is.  It only affects the single application being used (Outlook), one of your other applications or desktop is affected.  You don't loose any resolution at all.

    -Quit the application

    -Go to the Applications folder.  

    -Select the application you need to run in low resolution mode.  In this case, Outlook.

    -Go to "Get Info" You can do this any of three ways (1) Right click and go to "Get Info" (2) Left click the application, click on file, click on "Get Info" (3) Left click the application, press command and "i" on the keyboard

    -Toward the top of the window that opens, check the box next to "Low Resolution Mode"

    This is a workaround, not a fix, true.  But emails and calendars aren't exactly something I'm clamoring to see on a Retina display.

    It's now been a week since I enabled low resolution mode for Outlook and the issue has not returned.

    I HAVE THE SAME ISSUE AND TOOK TO APPLE WITH SAME ANSWERS ABOVE - I narrowed it down to OUTLOOK and the update, which is why i searched google and came to this forum - WOW, it really is OUTLOOK - I do not use Skype - MICROSOFT NEEDS TO ADDRESS this  - i do not want to switch to apple mail - !

    I agree.  Why would I step down my beautiful resolution?  Microsoft needs to fix this.

    I am not a fan of the native Apple Mail as I get so much email and need it organize to keep my head straight.  Outlook connected to my corpoprate servers perfectly and integrated Skype fopr my videoconference meetings.  

    So my resolution right now is to use Outlook on my Windows PC.  Which is horrible.

    If truth be told , I find Apple mail a bit quirky after using Outlook for as long as I can remember .

    Also , as a business owner not having to log in to corporate servers Apple mail will suffice .

    Nevertheless, getting used to Apple Mail even though attachments do not attach as to where they rightly should, but lurk somewhere right at the bottom of mails .

    On the bright side  .......no flashing screen !!

    24 hours in and low resolution mode fixed it for me.

    Late 2015 iMac and Radeon R9 M395

    Reason I bought a 5k iMac is for the fantastic resolution ......Low resolution for me is not the fix - I am using Apple Mail and happy with it.

    MAYBE Microsoft will one day resolve ?
