Using aliases from the new Outlook app for Android

I'm having trouble using the new Microsoft Outlook app to send e-mails from different aliases under the same account. I have my primary (and original) e-mail added, but when I compose a new message, it no longer gives me all my other e-mail aliases from the drop-down function to choose a different "send from" address (not Gmail or another service, but simply aliases within the same Microsoft account). The old app had them on the drop-down when composing a new e-mail, this one doesn't. I've tried adding my other aliases as other accounts, but it simply tells me that this account has already been added (which it has, but not the aliases).

This along with the now non-existent option to download files directly to my device is making me dislike this new app. I feel like a perfectly good app has been ruined for nothing. It might look fancier but does not work as well and is more confusing that it needs to be.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi,

To better assist you, we suggest to use your Outlook.com account to manage the "Alias"  you want to use when sending emails. See the steps below on how to do it:

  1. Login in Outlook.com.
  2. Once done, click the gear icon at the top right.

3. Click **Options,then inConnected accounts,**hit Manage or choose a primary alias.

   4. Choose how would you like to receive your code.

   5. Once done, click Add email, then choose "Add an existing email address as a Microsoft account alias"

 

   6**.**Open your Outlook application again, then try to send an email and choose the alias that you added.

    I would like to add my voice to this thread.

    I have logged the missing alias feature with Microsoft via feedback & noted that there are MANY requests/complaints about this missing feature in the Android app going back months!

    I have 3 aliases on my Outlook account; 1 for serious stuff (alias1), 1 for personal/social (alias2),  & 1 for work specific stuff (alias3). From the web portal I can send from any; on the Android app, not only can I only send from the main account alias1; but it also replies to previously replied responses using either alias1 or alias3, ignoring alias2 & with no option to change it!! I seem to have no control over which!!

    I used to rely on Virgin.net email where I could have as many alias mailboxes as I liked & could add each to IMAP as an account & maintain control that way.

    I moved to Outlook.com because it was separate from my old ISP; aliases work great on the web browser interface, but if I add each Outlook alias as a different account in the Android app then my internal storage gets pillaged because it will contain multiple copies of the content, 1 for each account, not just the content for that alias.

    I have trusted that MS would see fit to fixing this bug for months/years since there is such a body of complaint about it on feedback but still no joy.

    Do I really need to move away from using Outlook.com to get a properly working app experience?

    As you wish few features to be added in Outlook app, I suggest you to provide feedback to Microsoft about your concern. They shall this features in Outlook app.

    Dear unnamed MS person:

    If I understand your answer correctly, what you are saying is that there is outlook on browsers and outlook on apps etc. and that they are different and that some people actually like it that way. 

    If I haven't misunderstood you, then all I can say is that I knew that. The point of this thread, if you have been following it, is that we have been wanting to know if there is a way of bringing the alias feature to the outlook app. I think the answer is "No," but it's been unclear by the responses we have been receiving. My particular comment was in response to one of the other unnamed MS people who said that the browser had full functionality, but the app did not. I asked that, since one can format the browser for an app (and it even looks like an app, and then save it as a favorite), what was the point of creating the app.

    But, thank you for trying to respond. at least you tried. 

    We still would like features like the simple alias function to be in the app, but I suppose we will have to be disappointed. I like the app, but it does lack an unusually large number of features that are pretty standard in other non-MS email apps.

    I would like to inform you that, when you use an Outlook.com account on browser, Outlook app or any other Mail client, there is a difference in use interface. Hence, the option to customize your Outlook.com shall be different, depending on the way you access you Outlook.com account. You may access your Email account on any Mail client, web browser or Outlook app, you shall find all there features of Outlook.com in them. However, the few people like to access their Email account on web browser, few on Outlook app or different Mail clients, depending on their convenience.
