DNS settings issue on Outlook for Mac 2011

I am constantly getting these popup window alerts for my Outlook for Mac 2011 every few minutes"

"Outlook cannot find the server. Verify the server information is entered correctly in the Account Settings, and that your DNS settings in the Network pane of System Preferences are correct."

How do I correct this issue??

Hi RSSrsvp,

Here’re the steps to flush DNS in Mac:

  • Step 1: Open the Terminal
    • Navigate to Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal
  • Step 2: Flush DNS - Type the following command and hit enter. 
    • Mac OS X Yosemite and later
      sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder
      • Mac OS X Yosemite v10.10 through v10.10.3

sudo discoveryutil mdnsflushcache - Mac OS X Mavericks, Mountain Lion and Lion

sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder - Mac OS X Snow Leopard

sudo dscacheutil -flushcache

    Hi RSSrsvp,

    Thanks for the screenshot and the information.

    You can try the following to check if the issue can be fixed.

    1. Open Outlook
    2. Go to "Tools" --> "Accounts"
    3. In the Accounts window UNCHECK "Use SSL to connect (recommended)" under BOTH Incoming Server and Outgoing Server. 
    4. Close the Account window and give Outlook a couple minutes to attempt to connect.

    When I unchecked the SSL boxes that caused a new problem as I stopped receiving emails. I had sent myself a test message from another account which was only received after I checked the SSL boxes again 1 hour later.

    1. I am using version Outlook for Mac 2011 version 14.7.2 and have Sierrarunning on my iMac.
    2. see below
    3. The account is a outlook.com account and of course is setup as an imap account.
    4. This is the only account I am using in Outlook.
    5. The popup window appears frequently when the Outlook for Mac is open.

    1. What's the detailed version of Outlook for Mac 2011 and OS? E.g. 14.7.2;10.12.4
    2. The screenshot of the popup window.
    3. What email account do you set up in Outlook for Mac? Gmail, Office 365 account or other types? And the way you configure it/them.
    4. How many accounts will cause the popup window?
    5. What did you do when you get the popup window?

    After getting all the information above, we can identify the root cause of the issue and try some resolutions to fix it.
