Ever since then search is broken in Outlook on both computers - any search returns no results. Windows 10 search outside Outlook works fine. I've rebuilt the index, used ScanPST.exe and tried other things at https://lookeen.com/blog/how-to-fix-outlook-2016-search-problems and https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Reset-indexing-by-rebuilding-your-Instant-Search-catalog-213a2728-0ef4-427a-9bb2-aed329a59b17 but the problem remains on both computers.

I know, this is not helpful for you, but I cannot confirm your observation.
I just updated to 1703 (7967.2082) and search still works.

What's weird about this time around (for me) is that search still works for All Outlook Items and All Mailboxes but not for Current Folder, Subfolders, and Current Mailbox.
Sometimes, Microsoft makes me feel like I don't know whether I'm coming or going.

in the meantime I went back to Office Version 1702 (Build 7870.2031) due to a annoying bug in Excel (I have to confirm Save File evertime I want to close a file, even if nothing was changed).
You are totally right - it seems, Microsoft implements more new bugs than new features.
They do not thoroughly test new versions.

Sorry for troubles the issue caused to your daily works. I totally understand your feeing. However, we have been confirmed the newest update has fixed the search function issue in Outlook. The issue you encounter is individual. Usually it cannot be fixed by applying a fix. That’s why we suggest you post a new thread. Doing this also clarify other users in this community.
