Ever since then search is broken in Outlook on both computers - any search returns no results. Windows 10 search outside Outlook works fine. I've rebuilt the index, used ScanPST.exe and tried other things at https://lookeen.com/blog/how-to-fix-outlook-2016-search-problems and https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Reset-indexing-by-rebuilding-your-Instant-Search-catalog-213a2728-0ef4-427a-9bb2-aed329a59b17 but the problem remains on both computers.

Just a hint: the search as I described above does not work in OneNote too.
It works however in Word and Excel.
Unfortunately this way of searching did not work in Version 1612 (Build 7668.2074) of Outlook too (normal search for the first part of a word did work in this older version).
I will do the test after rebuilding the index with Version 1702 (Build 7870.2031) again.
Rebuilding the index does not help with the problem. Only a search for the first couple of letters of a word gives results.
As described above: search for "page" finds "pagefile", search for "file" does not find anything.

AH, I see! I believe that is normal behavior as I can reproduce. But let me ask around to make sure.

But I don´t think it should be a "normal behaviour" when a search function doesn´t find anything.
For OneNote I have a solution: there´s an addon called Onetastic with a search function, which works perfect.
Do you know of any addon for Outlook, which searches correctly?
On the other hand - I´m very confident, that someone at Microsoft has skills to "repair" that search function.
