Ever since then search is broken in Outlook on both computers - any search returns no results. Windows 10 search outside Outlook works fine. I've rebuilt the index, used ScanPST.exe and tried other things at https://lookeen.com/blog/how-to-fix-outlook-2016-search-problems and https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Reset-indexing-by-rebuilding-your-Instant-Search-catalog-213a2728-0ef4-427a-9bb2-aed329a59b17 but the problem remains on both computers.

There is an updated build that was just released. Please turn auto updates back on, install the latest build & confirm that it fixed the issue.

Rebuilding the index does not help with the problem. Only a search for the first couple of letters of a word gives results.
As described above: search for "page" finds "pagefile", search for "file" does not find anything.

Just a hint: the search as I described above does not work in OneNote too.
It works however in Word and Excel.
Unfortunately this way of searching did not work in Version 1612 (Build 7668.2074) of Outlook too (normal search for the first part of a word did work in this older version).
I will do the test after rebuilding the index with Version 1702 (Build 7870.2031) again.

Can you try to rebuild indexing and see if that improves the experience?
1. Close Outlook and open Control Panel.
2. In the Search box, type Indexing, and then choose Indexing Options.
3. Click on the Advanced button.
4. In the Advanced Options dialog box, on the Index Settings tab, under Troubleshooting, click Rebuild.
If you have already done that let me know.
