Outlook automatically jumps to older emails

Hi,

The last version of Outlook for office 365 (for Mac) automatically jumps to older emails when I leave Outlook in the background. 

So far I could not find any pattern of how and when exactly it does so. But when returning to Outlook after having worked in other applications for some minutes, Outlook has already jumped and is showing a one or two months old email, meaning I have to manually go to the top of the list.

Any idea if it is possible to solve this issue in the current version or whether we will have to wait for an upgrade?

Hi all,

Please try the "Insiders Fast" 15.23 public update to see if this is still happening.  Go to "Help"->"Check for Updates" and opt in to the "Insiders Fast" program at the bottom to get the new update.  If you are on "Insiders Slow" or have not opted into a pre-release, then you will have to wait a few more days for the update.  We did make a change that we thought might fix the jumpiness, but haven't been able verify since we can't repro internally.

    I have the same annoying problem, but in addition to what has been reported it also happens when I shift from one account to an other.

    So, when I use account A, the most recent mail is on top of the list (as set in Preferences).

    When I go to account B, the order of the messages is the same, but Outlook selects a mail completely random from let's say one week or two months ago.

    And when I go back to account A the same happens again.

    The same occurs when I go to sent messages. And also when I go back to the IN box.

    This means an endless shifting with the tiny blue slider on the right side of the list with messages. 

    It would be very helpful if we had a key-shortcut to go to the upper message.

    I also have this issue.  Mac Outlook 15.22 with sort by "Conversations" and "Newest on Top".  I have not had the selection/focus jump while I am actually using Outlook.  It is when I am in Outlook and the selection is on the newest message and then switch to another app and when I return to Outlook the selection/focus is not where I left it but has moved to an older message and then I have to scroll back to the top just as everyone else has described.

    With messages organized by Conversation and Newest on Top, toggling Show in Groups causes the jump each time.

    I've got 2 months of messages, and it always jumps to the 3rd from the bottom (out of hundreds). Makes no sense!

    If it makes any difference, I only installed Office for Mac 2016 two days ago after using Office for Mac 2011 for years, so the install was an upgrade instead of a fresh install, and my local mailbox went through a full conversion process.

    The recurring jump events definitely seem to correspond with the frequency of syncing with the Exchange server.

    Does it happen with "Show in Groups" toggled (opposite whatever you have)?
