Mac Outlook 2016 - Import Contacts

I can't find a straightforward answer on this, so hoping you can help. I want to import a list of contacts in Excel (Mac 2016) into my Outlook (Mac 2016) contacts list. This used to be easy, but I cannot find the functions to do this now. Is this another functionality Microsoft has stripped from Mac Office or is there a way to do it?

You can't import it straight into Outlook, but there is a way around this:

• Export from Excel to a csv file.

• Import the csv file into the System Contact app (it should be fairly

straightforward, especially if all fields are properly labeled).

• Select all contacts there and drag them to the desktop to create a .vcf

• drag the .vcf into the address book where you want them imported in

Outlook.

That should do the trick.

    Ok...yes, I believe I have had that problem as well.

    Try this...

    This method is the one I now use to get contacts from my Mac "Contacts" into my Outlook contacts:

    Obtain the free software called "AB2CSV."  It has a User Guide and a welcome screen, but the software is not entirely easy to figure out, quite frankly.  Anyhow, once opened, close out the welcome screen and a small square execute box appears.  First, go to the top menu screen of your computer and select the "AB2CSV" bold letters and go to the Preferences.  Here you can select "entire address book" or you could possibly select a group of addresses that you may have previously set up in your mac contacts, such as a Smart Group, for example.  After setting up your AB2CSV preferences the way you want them, go back to the small execute box and when you click on it now it will ask you where you'd like to store the .vcf cards that it will make.  Store those in a folder on your desktop, perhaps.  Now go back to Outlook and open up Contacts in Outlook.  Now, simply drag and drop the .vcf cards from the desktop folder into the Outlook Address Book. 

    This method works every time for me, and is the one I use instead of my above method.

    I’m sorry I wasn’t able to reply in a timely fashion to your question.  I am not an expert on this by any means, but I have had some success figuring out how to get my contacts from my mac laptop computer over to Outlook.

    Perhaps it would be easier to explain what I have learned with a call?  If you are agreeable, reply with a cell number and I’ll give you a shout.  My prefix will be (817) when I call.  Thanks.

    Greetings

    I use a 2018 model apple MacBook. I have Microsoft office 2016 loaded on the Mac. This includes outlook 2016. I have my contact list (address book) from my old windows machine saved as either an excel or a .csv file. How do I upload this to my contacts list in Outlook 2016 on the Apple Mac??

    I am desperate!!! I HAVE ABOUT 1600 contacts (email addresses) and I really do not want to have to retype them!!!!

    GTSeattle,

    I did not have to convert my MacOS Contacts to a spreadsheet.  When I click on "Address Book" (which is a book icon with the words "Address Book" next to it on the HOME tab of the Outlook Contacts page, it opens a "Search People" dialogue box.  In that box there are two drop-down menu parameters:  "Search All Fields" in "All Folders" (each of those in quotes is its own drop-down menu).  Then, when I click on the "All Folders" item, it opens a drop-down menu with one of my choices being "Address Book."  When I select that, then I see my list of MacOS Contacts right there.  That's when I "select all" of them and carry on.  I'm sorry if your system differs at that point...
