I have a large email database. I have many groups which HAD specific members in them. All the individual names have disappeared from ALL of my groups. How can they be restored without starting over and entering them again?

That's correct. I used to be able to click on a person that I wanted to include in a group, then click on "Groups," then add him or her to an existing group. All existing groups have vanished. Now there is only one choice when I click on "Groups," and that is "New Group."

That is what happened to me too. Over 20 groups disappeared in both Outlook 2010 and hotmail. Strangely, 2 survived.
It would be great to know that they might reappear.
All of my groups have completely disappeared from my Hotmail account. Usually I can type the first letters of a group--for example, Blog...--into an email address and auto-complete will complete them. I can't even do this any more, let alone add members to groups. I have about 200 people that I notify whenever I post a blog. Unless things change back, this will now be impossible, and I will lose income from fewer page views on my blogs.
Microsoft won't acknowledge here because these are peer-to-peer forums; users helping each other. However, I know that Microsoft is aware of this and there can be delays as mailboxes are moved to the new platform.
That sounds hopeful ...maybe the files are not permanently lost.
