How do I get Outlook app on Android to sync contacts? (Not Outlook.com app)

I got a message on my Android phone that Microsoft was no longer going to support the app Outlook.com and that we should use the Outlook app. So I uninstalled outlook.com app and installed the Outlook app.

Now new contacts that I entered on the People page of Outlook on my computer do not show up on my phone. I went to Settings, Accounts, Microsoft Exchange, and clicked on sync for mail,, contacts, calender, and tasks. It said that the sync was done moments later. However, I still do not have the new contacts on my phone. This was not a problem with Outlook.com app.

I am about to uninstall the Outlook app and go back to Outlook.com. However, if you don't support it, I could have problems not getting updates to protect against malmare and hacking.

I don't particularly like the new Outlook app's appearance with all those colored squares with people's initials on the left of the email listing. I prefer to have he boxes on the left so I can look at the list and check off one or more messages and then delete them all at once. What if there is a message with a virus in it. I want to be able to delete suspicious messages without opening them.

Thanks for your help,

Jacki

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Office Community.

Please provide us the additional information to help you better.

  1. Are you able to see the new contacts on Outlook.com webmail?
  2. Does the existing contacts show up in Outlook app?
  3. Did you setup the Outlook.com account as Exchange Active Sync in Outlook app?

If not, you may setup as EAS account and verify whether contacts synchronize.

If yes, create new contacts in Outlook phone app and check if it syncs.

Microsoft is collecting feedback from customers regarding Outlook app user interface. They are actively looking into the concerns raised by the customers.

You may provide feedback regarding outlook app interface using the In-App function in Outlook for Android.

I look forward to your reply to assist you further.

Thank you.

    Hi There,

I also faced the problem suddenly, after years using EAS contacts.

The SIMPLE SOLUTION mentioned above DID WORK:

Uninstall and re-install your Microsoft Active Sync account, BUT making sure you do it with MANUAL SETUP and inserting S.OUTLOOK.COM at the server address.

After doing that, my contacts synced back again.

What I ended up doing was using the new Exchange function within the Gmail App settings on my phone. Is very nice, syncs contacts to the phone and calendar. It was very straight forward and easy to set up.

Set it up manually though when asked do not allow the wizard to do the setup as it wll not work.

    1. Tap Settings
    2. Under Accounts, tap Add account
    3. Tap Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync
    4. Enter your email address
    5. Enter your email password
    6. Tap Manual setup
    7. Leave the domain field empty, if there is one.
    8. Enter your user name. Your user name is the complete email address you set up in the Outlook.com Control Panel.

Note: If domain and user name are written in the same field, please make sure you only enter your username in this field. 9. Enter your email password. 10. In the Exchange server field, enter: s.outlook.com 11. Select Use secure connection SSL 12. Select Accept all SSL certificates 13. Tap Next 14. Select the Account options you want 15. Tap Next 16. Select the settings you want under Account options 17. Tap Next 18. Enter a name for your account 19. Tap Done

this works i use it totally for contacts and diary and its miles better than the outlook app as you can add contact pictures too.

Nope Microsoft have completely failed in aspect.

However I have set up and exchange active sync (EAS) account on the phone and this works brilliantly why Microsoft don't tell users about this I don't know. it is simple to set up and syncs contacts to your phone standard contact application same with emails and calendar.

You can even add contact pictures. I find this miles better and i have uninstalled the outlook app forever
