Outlook app on Android - "An Error Occurred" when trying to setup my account

Hello all,

Would appreciate your thoughts on the following situation:

I just installed the Outlook App on my Galaxy S5 phone (Android 6).

When I start it, I get prompted for an email address so I enter my work email (Office 365) and after a few seconds it looks like something comes up and then get dumped back to the "Get Started" screen with the most helpful error message in human history:

"An Error Occurred"

Wow! Where to begin?

I cannot make it past this screen to access any settings or options of any kind.

Guess what - the OWA app for Android works fine, but it doesn't have WEAR capability unlike the Outlook app.

Any suggestions/assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    I just solved same issue. I bought new Android phone, and I needed to add my Microsoft account. Doing it from Outlook app, I received an error after inserting the password, telling me to try again later. Same thing if I did it from Android Settings -> Account -> Microsoft account menu. 

    I solved installing the Microsoft launcher app, when configuring it, it asks for a Microsoft account. I inserted the one which was giving error in the Outlook app. In this one, it was added successfully. Also, it was now a Microsoft account present on the phone.

    Returning to the Outlook app, it now saw it as an existing account, and asked me to add it. It didn't request the password again, as the account was already present on the phone.

    I think the Outlook app miss some validation code present in other apps.

    If you have the authenticator app just remove it

    YES!!!!

    I cannot believe that this was all it took, and how incompetent MS support has been, I have opened various support cases through the app, and just got brushed off, very poor MS form here. Hope they have added this into their support db!!!

    Can someone please help me? I am having exactly the same problem as described. The app was actually working on my phone (Pixel 2) and because it was having trouble syncing, I "reset" it but that didn't fix it so I tried to un/re-install it. Since then, I haven't been able to access my account because I keep getting the message "An error occurred". I have tried going through the phone's settings but that hasn't worked and I can't access Outlook's settings because I'm stuck on the Get Started page.

    And I had this problem and found that in my case the problem was caused by the microsoft authenticator application.

    That is if I install microsoft authenticator, I can not configure Outlook, nor Teams on my mobile phone.

    I have to install Outlook and the Teams first and then the Autenticator. I hope I have helped.
