Outlook app on Android - "An Error Occurred" when trying to setup my account

Hello all,

Would appreciate your thoughts on the following situation:

I just installed the Outlook App on my Galaxy S5 phone (Android 6).

When I start it, I get prompted for an email address so I enter my work email (Office 365) and after a few seconds it looks like something comes up and then get dumped back to the "Get Started" screen with the most helpful error message in human history:

"An Error Occurred"

Wow! Where to begin?

I cannot make it past this screen to access any settings or options of any kind.

Guess what - the OWA app for Android works fine, but it doesn't have WEAR capability unlike the Outlook app.

Any suggestions/assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    The year is now 2020 and this occurred on one of my colleagues Android phone.

    We were able to resolve by going into Android phone settings > Accounts and back up > accounts > work account > deleting work account

    After deleting the work account my colleague was able to go back into the Outlook app and log into her Outlook account

    Hi everyone,

    The solution that worked for me with this most frustrating and non-obvious problem is to first uninstall the MS Authenticator app. Configuring the Outlook app afterwards works like a charm.

    I am now using Google Authenticator which flawlessly including for my Office 365. I can't confirm whether re-installing MS Authenticator (after resolving the Outlook app issue) would work, but I guess it's worth a try.

    Hard to believe that Microsoft after so many years has still not managed (or bothered) to fix this.

    I get "an error occurred" while configuring my Office365 account "Federated domain (Education account)" on MS outlook mobile app on Android 10.

    The problem solved after removing MS Authenticator app and restart my Mobile.

    Then configured outlook.

    Then install MS Authenticator app again.

    Hi all,

    I recently had the same issue as described here and me and my IT department took two days covering ALL of the troubleshooting including a full factory reset with no luck on fixing.  HOWEVER, I wanted to share the fix we made that actually worked: I have an android phone. In your phone settings under Intelligent Assistance you tap on App Blocker.  Turn off app blocker for Comp Portal AND outlook and then go back to outlook and try logging in again. Boom.  Log in works immediately.  Hope this helps!  Apologies if this was already figured out elsewhere, (I have been searching for days and haven't seen this suggestion yet)
