Outlook app on Android - "An Error Occurred" when trying to setup my account

Here's a workaround to solve this issue:

1. On the main page, click on Get Started.
2. In the next page where you have to insert the email address , enter the email address and before clicking continue , disable all forms of data on your phone (wifi, mobile data).
3. Once data is disabled, click continue.
4. At this point, Outlokk will open a new window and will show you 3 options - Office365, Outlook and Exchange.
5. Enable mobile data now and click the appropriate option based on your email type.
6. Enter Password and wait for outlook to add the email.

I was also getting the same error in my OnePlus3 Device having Android OS : 7.1.1, Oxygen OS 4.1.6.

Solution:

Setting --> Apps --> Outlook --> Choose App Data usage and uncheck Disabled Wi-Fi and Disabled DataUsage

then clear the Cache and data for Outlook via by going back and Choosing Storage --> Clear Data and Clear Cache.

Try on your device and help me with some results. It worked for me.

Same issue. When trying to setup the app, "an error occurred' would pop up after the email was typed in and the 'continue' button was hit.

-Android phone (7.1.x)

-Outlook app (worked until the password change)

-After the corp password change the app stopped syncing.

-Reinstalling the app didn't help

-Readding account didn't work as it would simply take me back to the app screen where I would be prompted for the email address and the error would pop up agian.

Finally I typed in the wrong password (left one letter out from the domain on purpose). This takes you to the advance setup setting where you are presented with more options (Outlook, O365, Exchange). Exchange is what you need but it wouldn't let me fix "the typo" in the email address (it is greyed out). Playing with a few settings within the app (at the same exchange window) finally allowed me to fix the email address and type in the password and the server info (outlook.office365.com).

What worked for me on Android ASUS Zen Fone 2:

1. make sure default browser was working and configured so that when it launched with a URL it just worked with no prompts (i.e. select which application to use Chrome or Browser, make Browser default?, etc).
2. Via the default browser, login to the Office365 URL via https://outlook.office.com/owa/ and give your worksite credentials to the secondary URL login prompt.
3. Open Outlook and Get Started, entering the same credentials again.

Mine had the same error and I just figured it out after a month of trying.

1. Go into settings, accounts.
2. Log out of the email you are trying to use in the outlook app and delete whatever app you had been using in the past.
3. Download the Outlook android app.
4. Settings, accounts, add new (mine worked with Microsoft exchange account but choose your account type).
5. And DONE
