Outlook app on Android - "An Error Occurred" when trying to setup my account

was struggling with setting up my office 360 email account on this device with the set up listed above , i kept getting 'an error occurred' message

then i came across TEEK501's suggestion to try to set up the outlook while connected to the WORK WiFi, with nothing to loose i tried it and it worked in the very first attempt, after the initial set up i tunred off the wifi on the phone and sent and received a few test messages while using the LTE connection , Just wanted to say 'Thank you! for sharing'

I had the same issue.  I resolved it by going to Settings > Users & accountsand I removed the account there. After that, when I tried to add account on Outlook for Android, it worked.

I know this is an old thread. 

But I just had this problem with my Samsung 5 phone trying to install MS Outlook app to get my mail via Office365 Corporate Account.  I tried all the things people suggested. Installing, uninstalling, rebooting, dancing around the room etc etc.

After hours of frustration, here is what fixed it for me.

Go to "settings" in phone, 

Go to "security" settings.

Find "Device Administrators"

 Open this. There was an icon here for outlook that said "Outlook Device Policy" (the app was installed currently on my phone but not working)

  This option "Outlook Device Policy"  was un-checked. I Checked it. Now the is a nice green check mark beside it enabling it.

Now go back to Outlook and try to set  it up.

Worked right off the bat. I cannot say if this is everyone's issue. It was for me. And I think in my case no amount of installing and uninstalling and updating, praying etc etc etc. Would have worked until this checkbox is checked. 

 I hope a few people will find this as the solution to save themselves the frustration.

Yes, this also works if Authenticator app is not installed.

Please everyone check your Device Administrator settings in your phone

You have to register your device through Authenticator app actually, and disable battery optimization for that app in Android settings

That with solve any inconveniences with office 365 accounts
