Outlook app on Android - "An Error Occurred" when trying to setup my account

Hello all,

Would appreciate your thoughts on the following situation:

I just installed the Outlook App on my Galaxy S5 phone (Android 6).

When I start it, I get prompted for an email address so I enter my work email (Office 365) and after a few seconds it looks like something comes up and then get dumped back to the "Get Started" screen with the most helpful error message in human history:

"An Error Occurred"

Wow! Where to begin?

I cannot make it past this screen to access any settings or options of any kind.

Guess what - the OWA app for Android works fine, but it doesn't have WEAR capability unlike the Outlook app.

Any suggestions/assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Pete

Well, this is strange. So, I had been trying for a while now to get mine to reconnect but was getting nowhere. I had tried on a different wifi network, but proved unsuccessful. However, last Wednesday while waiting for my son at the dentist I connected to their wifi, out of boredom decided to try Outlook again and sure enough it worked.

Any other time I had tried it failed, although outside of my own network it was always typically on an xfinity network as my phone automatically connects to those anytime it finds one. But, even trying with just mobile data and following a suggestion earlier in this thread to disable all data it still kept failing. Not sure why it suddenly worked on this particular network, but with the previous poster having success on his works wifi, mine now working on an entirely new wifi network, it may be worth trying for people who are still having problems.

Find a brand new wifi network, give it a shot and see.

Seems like they've put it in the too-hard basket.

I've just fixed this issue after being in the same boat for a few weeks: Outlook app worked fine for my work email until change of password. From then it only gives 'an error occurred', while OWA and stock xperia/android email app continue to operate normally with that account.

Followed the suggestions throughout this thread, including uninstalling and reinstalling, playing with account settings and cache but no luck.

Just now it has suddenly worked out of the blue. I went to add an account through settings > accounts > add account > outlook, and after putting in the email it actually went to my organisation's sign-in page, instead of the usual error. I noticed I was connected to my work's wifi when it worked, and i'm usually trying to fix this pesky issue elsewhere.

Perhaps give that a try, in case it helps, though it could have just been random luck..

Hopefully it lasts, either way i'm sure i'll be back here when my password next resets. surely microsoft would have fixed (or at least acknowledged) the bug by then...

Same here. So far nothing helps. Very annoying. Is Microsoft listening?

Getting the same issue here, S7 Edge running Android 7.0. Working fine until about a week ago, i have not changed my password though, noticed that i was getting email notifications, but no actual emails. Reset the account did not fix it, removed the account and now stuck.

I have tried several things listed in this thread, nothing works. I just get the same generic "an error has occurred" and that's it. Adding a Hotmail account works, using mail.office365.com in a browser works, but i cannot get my work email set up in Outlook.

You are Right, it doesn't work anymore.

The day i posted this answer, it had worked, but a few days later the issue repeated itself and since then i am not able to set it up again.

Btw, i too have a sephora.com email with an android device (OP 3T).

What i can suggest is to use an app called Aqua mail. It may not be as good as outlook but at least it works.
