Outlook app on Android - "An Error Occurred" when trying to setup my account

Hello all,

Would appreciate your thoughts on the following situation:

I just installed the Outlook App on my Galaxy S5 phone (Android 6).

When I start it, I get prompted for an email address so I enter my work email (Office 365) and after a few seconds it looks like something comes up and then get dumped back to the "Get Started" screen with the most helpful error message in human history:

"An Error Occurred"

Wow! Where to begin?

I cannot make it past this screen to access any settings or options of any kind.

Guess what - the OWA app for Android works fine, but it doesn't have WEAR capability unlike the Outlook app.

Any suggestions/assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Pete

yes this works, you just need to go to accounts, uncheck auto-sync data and try. It worked for me.

Mine had the same error and I just figured it out after a month of trying.

    1. Go into settings, accounts.
    2. Log out of the email you are trying to use in the outlook app and delete whatever app you had been using in the past.
    3. Download the Outlook android app.
    4. Settings, accounts, add new (mine worked with Microsoft exchange account but choose your account type).
    5. And DONE

If you have a Moto X 2nd gen, the steps above won't work because the screen setup is different. I was trying to set up my school account and was on the phone for over an hour trying to get my email account going.

Go to phone settings > Personal options area > Accounts > down to Add Account > Outlook.

I tried the exchange option first and nothing happened, so I switched to 365 and was able to log in that way.

I am facing the same problem in using my O365 account on my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 N8010. When I try to login in outlook app first time it ask for the email and password after few seconds it bring me to below screen "Get Started" without any error message.

Second time when i start outlook application and try to login it starts showing below error message. "An error Occurred"

When i setup my O365 account using samsung default Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync I am able to set up my account and check email using samsung default email application.

When I try to setup Office account from 'setting>add a account' I get msg "Oped Word, excel..." as shown in screenshot. And when i open the OneNote to login it ask for the email id and then its a personal or work account. In selecting work account I get the Message "Cant Sign in" as shown in the screenshot.

Many people have this issue since long time but till now Microsoft it not even able to find what is the problem.

    Android Version 4.1.2

    Outlook version 2.1.65

    We have our ADFS setup.
