Sync Outlook 365 (email, contacts, calendar and notes) with android phone

I think this is really what it is all about. Microsoft forcing us into buying only Microsoft products.

I had given up about an answer to this issue until someone pointed out to me that my apple account on my iPhone can be added and it syncs Email, contacts and calendar. Mind you every so often good old Microsoft do an update and then it will not work until you re do it. I expect Microsoft will plug  that gap soon. When my laptop has given up working. I can assure you that my next purchase will be ipad and Microsoft can go and swivel..

Windows 10 is rubbish it stops my laptop shutting down and they don't have a fix for that either.

I have been exploring options for this problem for 3 months, since I got an Android phone.  Not as long as some, but long enough.  Karl Timmermans and his colleagues are working hard to answer people's questions, but the simple fact is that there is no integrated solution for Outlook and Android phones.  Or for Apple phones, presumably.  By integrated I mean the kind of solution we've had with Outlook on a PC for years.  I have checked many of the suggested fixes, and they all tend to solve one isolated problem, and only the ones that are easy to do.  Outlook on Android is a simple email client.  I now use it as a monitor only, meaning I control and file all my email in Outlook on my PC as always, and my Android phone just picks up copies so I can be alerted to and deal with any urgent situations.  I delete the rest.  It's annoying, but not as frustrating as trying to make Android work 'properly'.

As an old-school Engineer, I simply expected Apple and Android to provide solutions, but it appears that in this new social-media driven mobile digital age, email in Outlook and Exchange is considered a dinosaur not worth saving.

But there's good news.  Microsoft is now selling a Nokia Lumia 650 phoneunlocked (meaning any phone network can add the 650 by just putting in your phone #), in US and Canada, with Windows 10, Office and Outlook installed. for just $199.  That means you can give away or sell your Galaxy phone and have a PC-like experience for a relative pittance.  Check out Lumia phones in the Microsoft store.  One presumes that new versions of the higher-power models are on the way, but for me, the 650 is feature-laden and will do anything I need.  I'm told that Outlook synchronization with Office 365 comes for free.  Perhaps someone who has one will advise us about that.

Microsoft has become the new IBM.  If you want a system that actually works, go to the system supplier.  Us old guys can remember pre-PC when that was IBM.  Today it's Microsoft.

All comes down to the type (POP, Imap, Exchange etc) of email account in use and to be more specific, the protocols supported by any given email service provider - in the case of Yahoo - it only supports POP3 and IMAP. If you want to bidirectionally sync all items including contacts/calendars etc - the ESP (email service provider) must support a protocol that includes that capability (i.e. Exchange ActiveSync, Exchange etc).

These are industry standard protocols that have nothing to do with Outlook which is an <email client>. Also FWIW - this equally applicable to any version of Outlook.

Has it been explained somewhere why Outlook - a product which includes email, calendar and contacts - can sync yahoo email between the desktop and the mobile Outlook app, but not the calendar or contacts? Why would this be different? As another poster suggested, this feels like false advertising, when this is what we thought we were paying for. Karl:  Hang in there!  You provide a great deal of useful information but seem to get nothing but abuse for your trouble.  There is at least one person out here who appreciates your work.

My problem:  I am trying to help my sister.  She has a Windows 10 computer (upgraded from 8.1) running Office 365, an iPhone, and an iPad.  We set up an outlook.com email address for her and set her previous email to auto-forward everything to her new outlook.com address.  We imported all her contacts into outlook.com.  We set up both her Apple devices to talk to her outlook.com account.  Her email is syncing properly between all three devices.  Her contacts sync between her iPhone and iPad (I suspect they do that automatically through iCloud, but I'm not an Apple expert so I'm not sure).  But no matter what we do I can't get her outlook.com contacts to sync with Outlook on her PC.  Outlook shows no contacts, and we can't import directly into Outlook as it is connected to an EAS server.

Any ideas?
