What is "Yomi name"?

Thank you EdwardStewart for making your point. I love your attitude of using Yomi for purposes other than originally intended, it's a really good idea! Shamelessly stealing your brainwave.

As an aside, with regards to other rather negative comments. I have never been as angered as some of the other community members by the presence of Yomi, it seems a little extreme in my eyes. I don't like seeing billboards all over town, but I don't stop and scream at them. So there's a feature you don't use, but maybe other people do, maybe they don't either. Everyone is empowered to provide feedback as end-users, but feedback with an excessive dose of negativity and intolerance just overshadows the alternative uses of certain applications.

Returning to the point of this thread, Yomi certainly caught my attention as something that I didn't know, so thank you to everyone for clearing that up. I think it is better now that it has been moved to the bottom of the list, but have no issues seeing it, whether I use it or not. With regards to other forms of names, such as those in Icelandic or Dutch culture, I think there should be more options for the end-user to include these in their Contacts layout.

Furthermore, I disagree with those who argue that language and regional specifications should see removal of Yomi. Whilst I do believe one should be able to remove it from the default list if desired, given the international nature of communications and cultural interconnectedness, language and regional specifications are no guarantee of end-user preferences. For example, whilst based in the UK, I also have many non-English, not necessarily Japanese, contacts and would find Yomi beneficial. Although products should be designed for the end-user, end-users have to be open-minded and also willing to put a little effort into personalising products and services designed for mass distribution. Of course, this should not be made difficult or unnecessarily time-consuming for the end-user, by the producer.

Rant over. In summary: Yomi is not useful for everyone, but has benefits beyond its prescription. Microsoft is not perfect. There should be greater flexibility for end-users to personalise their settings. Maybe that way, there'll be less griping.

There is a lot different between 8 and 8.1. Too much to go into but there is a lot of info about it on Microsoft.com. 8.1 was just a update similar to a service pack. It takes years to make and a while to test a new sub-version so 8.2 would probably come out in a year if there is going to be one. I doubt it will but maybe. To early to tell but I don't think they will because they just use the monthly rollups to add stuff that came in SP. Make sure you have optional updates on top of the important ones

The Skype account in the metro UI (tile) is based on the account you logged in to your computer. There must be something wrong with your settings because everything you are having issues with works for me. All of that data syncs to my calendar app. Maybe you could use some help setting it up. IF you want some start a new thread and we would be happy to fix the issue.

Windows 10, the new version that is set to come out is not going to be free. A beta probably won't come out for a year. Why would it be free? When I buy a 2013 Honda they don't send me a 2015 for free :)

This is an old tread and my post is off-topic. But, I did want to give you credit for apologizing. People point out negatives but less often point out positives -- You could have edited the rude post or deleted it and said nothing,, but instead you left it intact and corrected your tone by apologizing.

Everyone should be polite, customers too! And we are all Community members answering questions outside of a few Microsoft employees.  Moderators don't get paid have no obligation to do anything. I wish there was some section in this community to let people know that when we answer questions we aren't employees and don't get paid in anyway.

I hate spending time helping people just to get insulted and hammered with rude comments. Maybe I will add a request to create badge that says "community member" similar to Microsoft or Support Engineer.  

On topic, adding a contact has nothing to do with the users local or language. The UX is made in context of the contact being added. I person in the US can add a contact for a person in Canada and that person could have a Yomi first name, right?
