What is "Yomi name"?

I'm trying to add a contact.  If I click on the plus sign below the "First name", "Last name", and "Company" field, I see a pop-up whose first two entries, "Yomi name" and "Yomi company" don't mean anything to me.  Here's a picture:

What the heck does that mean?

Hi Brian,

Yomi name and Yomi company name are fields for entering the phonetic equivalent for Japanese names. In Japan, there is commonly a Furigana equivalent for the Kanji name that is used for sorting and searching.

    If handling the abuse the goes along with being a Moderator is beginning to wear upon you, perhaps it is time to look into not being a Moderator.

    Has anyone considered having options that we can add as we need them?  Much like another MICROSOFT program, MicroSoft Word or Excel...I can add or remove any feature from the ribbon at the top.  Why not utilize something of that nature for fields in any program?  It would be nice, for example to remove the "State" feature and add another field when adding a non-US contact.  Set a default "contact" look and then have the ability to change it if necessary.  

    And it was my understanding that Microsoft sought to be user-friendly so as to be able to compete with Apple.  Being user-friendly not only means great customer service, but giving the customer what is needed, and hiding what is not.

    I completely agree.  I have wasted time now looking that up.  Everything else in the US is configured to the English language, so all of a sudden, why is this popping up?  And no, I never saw the "Yomi" term in Hotmail.

    And, Mr. Firedog, I would expect a much more cordial tone from a moderator at Microsoft, regardless of how late.  We're not being intolerant by expecting OUR language parameters to be used in a system.  I have nothing against the Japanese or their language, but I expect English parameters for English preference.
