What is "Yomi name"?

"Nana2DB," we share the same concerns and opinions about the "Yomi Name Issue" nearly point-by-point and you expressed everything so well you saved me the trouble of composing a post myself...thank you! I couldn't agree with you more about the ability to add a second company or subcategory field with a dropdown box such as "Company2" or a user-definable category. For example, I purchased Nitro Pro 8 PDF software last week; the company that developed and sells this product is Cleverbridge, Inc. Added "Nitro Pro PDF Software" under the title "Nickname" based on the lack of options and it feels like a "cheap" quasi-solution. Another example that impacts me greatly on a professional level is that my clients are hospitals with contacts in a variety of different departments within the hospital. I could use a "Company2" (better still, a user-definable "Department") option to enter the specific department subcategory. The functionality and versatility of the entire Contacts component (among others) has fallen woefully behind meeting user needs, is non-intuitive and is still absurdly archaic, especially in light of the vast advances in all manner of technology over the past few years. Cheers as well to Brian and others for the spot-on great points expressed in this thread. Microsoft seems to be "phoning it in" now and it shows in their products. Very disappointed.

They truly are slipping.  I read the other day a new version of Windows is set to come out and Windows 8/8.1 owners will be able to get it for free....I certainly would NOT accept anything less but I do wonder if they've actually updated anything useful for the new one or simply going to let us add our own pics to our tiles vs. pretty new colors and squiggles as in 8 to 8.1....pardon my snarkiness, please.  I really do want Microsoft to actually be a superior product and quite frankly, even as a housewife, I find them to be lacking when it comes actual usefulness especially within their own apps. If you're gonna synch, then synch for Gawds sake and have my contacts birthdays and anniversary's show up on my calendar instead of Facebook being able to do it and my own Microsoft Contacts list doesn't "synch" with my Microsoft Calendar app....the tiles are almost on top of each other!  And why not link the zips to my weather tile???  Come on, even I have better things to do just running a household and trying to stay on top of my normal correspondence with family and friends for holidays and other special occasions and/or events.  I use Google more and more it seems....BTW, as I mentioned in my previous reply, am I the only one with a Google number???  OMG!!!  Talk about useful and amazing?!  I **** LOVE my Google number!!  You can buy credits for what I don't recall, but you don't NEED to, unlike Skype, which has disappointed me beyond belief when I realized that the tile on my start page is NOT the same account as the one I reach from my desktop...WTH?? I also find the many cases that you need Skype credit absurd and annoying. I have the program, apparently 2 times, instead of regular MSN Messenger and I actually LIKED and preferred Messenger! Never thought I'd say that...  :/

Oh for goodness sake!  This yomi business is simply nonsense.  (Even as I write this text in the reply box the word "yomi" has a red squiggly line under it indicating the Microsoft's own spell check doesn't recognize it!)  I too queried the term after bringing up HELP from being in my Contacts, "People " page and it wasn't even recognized.  For all of us, Japanese extraction included, who live in the grand U.S. of A. this term is nothing more than distracting and a waste of programming space.  It needs to be eliminated from the context for users in the U.S.  It's pandering to a teeny weeny minority in the name of foolish diversity.

And changing "Contacts" to "People" is so lacking in descriptive value that it's juvenile.

You took the words right out of my mouth...why not have a birthday slot and anniversary, etc. etc. etc so our calendar apps can pick up on them and add them automatically??  Why not?  Seems to make more sense for almost ALL of this planet and be far more useful to the masses than having to add all that detail to the calendar app ourselves. If you're trying to be helpful Microsoft, there's a great idea right there!  I get sick of adding the same nonsense all over, over and over again. I don't know anyone anything about this Yomi nonsense and probably much like most others, that's how I found this thread.  Google's biting at your heels Microsoft and most of their stuff is very useful....am I the only one with a Google number?? WOW! Amazing!  I absolutely LOVE my Google number and all that it allows me to do AND my callers/friends. Although now I'm wondering if Japanese Google clients can even use it at all since I haven't seen any Yomi business at all when using their products.  Hmmm.

This was interesting to me. Don't worry Brian,  I didn't know what it meant either. You all have a greater knowledge regarding this type of language and what it means.

The world is a big place. People need to be inquisitive and learn more so they can appreciate more of what people do and their areas of expertise.

Many people don't ask questions. This is a mistake. Learning is fundamental to our growth. A dumb dumb repeats errors. The wise listen and observe and acquire knowledge.

I would just like to say thank you to Stacey Hanson for explaining so clearly what the Yomi Name was for. 

And I would like to add that, though I agree they should not be listed at the top of the list, I have found that both Outlook and Gmail (and most likely other email applications) have the Yomi fields, so I just ignore them and use the fields I need.  Why can't we all just get along?
